Best, least expensive AR-15

I need an AR. I don't need a "real" Colt.. don't want to spend big money.. Just an 18" barrel AR that I can add shit to as I go.

A friend of mine got an Olympic for 750.. I've seen S&W's in that same range.. What would be a good choice?

Hmm Del-ton used to have setups for a little over 500 for a dirt cheap model.. but their prices look a bit different now?

I believe my old Oly Arms post ban AR is at Columbia Gun Rack. Last price I saw on it was like $650 and they would probably be willing to negotiate.

Budsgunshop has the optics ready M&P 15 for $650 and Smith currently has a $100 rebate. Hard to beat. Smith is about the best of the companies that are basically just assembling parts rifles.

Pretty much any AR that is not Vulcan/Hesse/Blackthorn or CAI and you will be just fine.

Um, get a good stripped lower & build it from the ground up.

Columbia Gun Rack has a decent selection & there prices are fair.

Ace has had M&P's for good prices in the not too far past.

I have a billet lower I could sell ya.

What do ya want to do?

If you were to find one online or out of the area, Columbia Gun Rack will do transfers for I think $20.00

West end of the Parkade. Near the Methodist Church. Same side of the street as the bronze 'paperboy'.
They are closed on Sundays and Mondays.

S&W M&P 15OR .223 Carbine 16" $839.00 SHIPS FREE

Here is the rifle but it appears the sale is over. Hell of a bargain while it lasted. The $100 off still stands for all their rifles.

CDNN has them for $599 after rebate:

Doublestar AR-15 from buds for 669.00 is a great deal. I am on my second Doublestar and I absolutely love it and have had no problems.

Here is the first one I bought for 669.00 Does not include the red dot scope.

Here is the New one that I bought for 799.00. Chrome bore and chamber with some other upgrades. 4150 Chrome Vanadium Barrel. Does not include the rail or scope for the 799.00 price.

I've only ever bought two complete AR's. One was a Eagle Arms/Armalite AR-15, the other was an Armalite AR-10. They were both killer guns, but once I got done customizing them I might as well have just started from scratch.

I have built a dozen or so since then. A couple from the ground up, but with the availability of today's market I usually build up a lower to my liking & order a complete upper ready to drop on.

MJN bro build one, it's an awesome experience building one from scratch more or less, get a good lower, a DPMS parts kit, depending on which stock ya want you can go for a Tapco which is what I have on mine, Magpul makes good stocks and so does BCM, then get a Del-Ton upper.. Won't run ya too much and it'll be a great reliable shooter. I built mine when the whole "Obama Scare" thing was going on so prices were a bit higher than they are now but you can build a nice setup for 800 bucks or less.. I would definitely go with a Del-Ton upper, they make some of the best ones out there and make sure you get a chrome lined barrel not a Chrome Molley barrel. This is the upper I got https://www.del-ton.com/ProductDetai...uctCode=DT2000 and then depending on rear sights you can get a flip up, I have a Magpul Del-Ton, Inc. AR-15 Magpul MBUS Rear Sight on mine, it's a pinhole sight. or you can get a fixed rear, Daniel Defense makes good ones, so does Troy.. The flip up's are nice because you can put an aimpoint or Eotech on and if it fails just pop it off and flip up the rear sight and you're good to go. I've put about 1,500-2,000 rounds through mine just the cheap Brown Bear ammo and I've never had a jam, misfire or anything.. I love mine it's damn fun to shoot and reliable as hell.. It's also cool to say you've built it. If you want to put a little extra money into it you can get a nice 2 stage trigger kit from DPMS as well. Here's mine currently, I'm going to pick up a front rail for it so I can get a front grip and attach a flashlight/laser to it.

That magazine looks SWEET!

& I have no input on DelTon. I would just go to PKFirearms.com & either pick one of the numerous complete uppers they have listed or if they didn't have exactly what I wanted, I would contact them & they will build exactly what you're looking for.

taped mags are a bit hollywood.

Better to get good at swapping quickly and wearing a bunch on your person. Tapes only good for the first swap... then your gonna have to reach for one from somewhere else.

I dunno about that... we used to have a couple Mini 14's... had a couple big clips taped back to back.. easy to flip around, and (if you use good duc tape..) held quite well. I honestly don't ever remember them coming apart...

Keep in mind.. I do have a bit of redneck in me...

We weren't thinkin' Hollyweird... we were just making due with what we had.

I didn't say taping magazines together doesn't functionally work.. Tons of arguments pro/con. Historically lots of instances of taped mags throughout wwll on up ( Thompson sub machine guns, M3 submachine gun, etc etc).

Taping them the way Barbarian has it setup puts one mag downward facing potentially packing it with dirt as your out and about. AR's aren't the most forgiving weapons when exposed to a couple handfuls of dirt (I think the ak takes the prize here). Also makes the gun heavier.

Other hand if it's your grab and go weapon, you've got twice the ammo when you pick it up and head into harms way.

RediMag makes a setup that keeps the extra mag out of the mud:

Personally it's a bit fruity for my taste kinda like pink furniture on your AR, and punisher grips on your 1911. I also don't subscribe to chroming parts on your scooters.. but that's just me.

Hollyweird loves em though:

* Full Metal Jacket: At the beginning of the scene with the troops encountering the VC sniper, we see that Cowboy has two 20 round M16 mags jungle styled.

* Platoon: Sgt. Elias uses two 20 round M16 mags jungle style in his carbine.

* Mr. & Mrs. Smith: Jane uses a H&K UMP fitted with a silencer, red dot sight, vertical foregrip, and two magazines jungle style when John and Jane are pursuing each other through their house.

* Scarface: In the final battle sequence, Tony Montanna takes an M16 with an undermounted grenade launcher and Jungle-Style Magazines, looking to be the higher capacity 30 round magazines.

* Die Hard 2: Many of the weapons used by the terrorists and Bruce Willis are Jungle Styled, with the different coloured tape holding them together identifying whether they are blanks or real.

* The Terminator: The Terminator uses an Armalite AR-18 assault rifle with two magazines taped together in a 'jungle style' configuration during the assault on the police station and during the car chase following the motel scene.

* The Town: During many of the robbery scenes, Ben Affleck and Jeremy Renner's characters are seen using assault rifles with jungle style magazines.

* Call of Duty: Black Ops: "Dual Mags" is available as an attachment on certain Assault Rifles, Submachine Guns, and Light Machine Guns. The description reads "Taped magazines for a quicker reload time".

* Battlefield 2: The AK-47s of the Assault and Medic classes of the MEC Faction both have jungle style magazines, though the time it takes to reload is still average. Furthermore, since there is only one reload animation, the player character loads the other magazine, and in the next reload, the former empty magazine is loaded with a full 30 rounds.

TAPED = SERIOUS BUSINESS
