It'd be interesting to build an AR pistol, but it'd still be damn expensive to shoot.

I am however good on the pmag front... :)

Ya, all .223 is spendy to shoot anymore! I've been considering one of those .22 conversions also & it could go in any of my AR's, pistol or rifles!

Let me know what you find when you research .22lr uppers...I may want one too. Actually, I know I'm gonna want one, but haven't done any research yet.:top:

I'm not buying a dedicated .22 upper. I'm getting the .22 conversion kit. It's only the BCG that gets replaced for while you want to shoot .22

$200 vs. $600... no question which I'd rather spend. I'll save the extra and buy more .223 ammo. :mfclap:

Get the CMMG 22 kit, and get it from RainierArms.com. only $195. Cheapest around.

BlackDogMachine mags are also the bestest, though CMMG recently started shipping their own 22 mag that looks pretty cool, and is only $20/ea.

Jose had a nice AR pistol w/ a Noveske upper. It actually shoulders pretty well with a foam-padded pistol buffer tube. You can shoot it from the shoulder no prob, just not as comfortable as a stock.

On Rainier, the CMMG is $195 and the BDM mags are $35 each.

I have a Spikes Tactical upper. They make their own .22 conversion with o-ring seals and all. It's $199 and they sell the BDM mags for $30 each. In addition to that, they're in FL, so no sales tax. Even better, they toss in 1 free BDM mag with their kit. So in essence, the extra $5 that their kit costs gets you a BDM mag. That's a $25 savings right there.

That's a good deal.

I've just done business w/ John @ Rainier before, and CS is excellent.

Oh definitely. Not knocking Rainier in the slightest. I haven't done business with them, but I've heard nothing but positive reviews.

I just couldn't pass up that Spikes offer. Pretty much getting a free magazine. And given that I have their upper, it only made sense.

I got online and placed my order. The .22 conversion kit w/ magazine (and 2 extra mags) came to $273.xx shipped. They're about a week out on production, so I should have it in 2 weeks or so. I can live with that.

I'll post up a review and some pics when I get it in and put it to the test.

As everyone else has said, I wouldn't go with a dedicated upper either. I've been eyeballing the CMMG kit that is a drop in a uses your current upper. That way you could use it with any .223 upper you currently have. Even one that may be suppressed!:top:

From what I have read they run flawless in most situations & as already stated, are about 1/3 the cost of a dedicated .22 upper.

I disagree. I went with a dedicated 22LR UPPER - not a conversion kit.

Why? You ask.

- Potential problems with lead bullets clogging gas port/tube and 223 inop.
- It's nearly identical to my MP15T - cheaper training / play rifle. Only difference is the trigger/hammer/sear.
- It's readily suppressed - bird cage flash hider comes right off and 22 suppressor scres right on. If you want to screw up a 223 (or 9mm) can, go ahead and run a thousand rounds of 22LR thru it. 22LR is dirty, nasty stuff.

A 22Lr conversion has it's place and they are a lot cheaper than a full up dedicated 22LR upper.

I'm personally not too worried about any of those issues.

Cleaning is easy (and free).
Most suppressor manufacturers say to not worry about firing 22lr through a 5.56 can.

22 conv. kit FTW!

Yes, you can do it, but why?

Have you ever looked at the insides of a 22LR can and noticed all of the crap inside it? Each round of 22LR fred sprays a fine lead mist that will eventually weld the can together. If a mfr says they will honor their warranty on a centerfire can that's had a shitload of rimfire ran thru it, I'd like to know who it so I can start laying aside $$ for my next can.

Given that you can't use a "can" here in WA, who cares? It's not even an argument worth having.

I scrub my AR barrel after each time I go shooting. It gets a good solvent bath, a polishing out, and a light oil, just like it should.

If I neglected my rifle then I could see cause for concern. Given that I baby the hell out of it, I'm not worried in the slightest.

I guess we can just agree to disagree. Your concerns are not as high on my decission point tree, just as my concerns aren't as important to you.

As for not shooting the suppressed weps in WA, consider that I live in Spokane and am 20 minutes from an indoor range in Post Falls and 45 minutes from an outdoor range outside Coeur d'Alene where I shoot the hell out of my suppresed weapons. The care and feeding of the can is important to me.
