So I am close to making my first "battle" type rifle purchase. I already have my zombie 223 cqc gun and want something with more reach so I think I want to go 308 but I must add that a 223 isnt completely out of the question.

What I want a rifle to be able to do. 1 MOA is a requirement.
Must be good out to 600 yards. That being said I am not looking for a 1000 yard gun.
I would like it to be semi auto but a bolt isnt out of the question. I just prefer the mag capacity of semis.

I am considering:
FNAR light barrel
DPMS LR-308 with a bull 20" barrel
Remington 700 Varmint with the triangle barrel

I am looking to spend about $750 up to the FNAR at the top of the budget at about $1400 OTD. Any input is welcome.

To be honest I am really leaning to the FNAR but it has mixed reviews. It seems that those that have one love it and those that just talk to talk dont say good things but have no real experience so I take that for a grain of salt.

Thanks! Oh and another option would be to get 2 rifles. 1 would be say a saiga ak 308 and then a bolt 308 for longer range duty.

thanks and its ok. another option has entered the arena. Rock River "Coyote". It has a match trigger 3/4" moa accuracy out of the box, and I can screw a can on the end. its a 223 also. should be good to hit a plate 8 out of 10 times at 600. I think barrel length is 20".

That's pretty darn good. I'd lean towards the .308 myself. However, I'd consider being hit with any projectile at any distance as a red-letter bad-day experience in my book.

+1 for RRA. I have a Varmint A4 with 18" stainless bull barrel and it's rated at 3/4" MOA as well. The two-stage match trigger is sweet too.

A Varmint A4 with a longer barrel (20" or 24") might be another option, as well as the Predator Pursuit which has the 20" heavy match barrel... but no can on the end of that one.

If you wanna go with the .308 there is the LAR-8 Varmint A4 with a 26" stainless bull barrel rated at 1 MOA.

i would LOVE to get the stainless bull barrel but if I am going to get a 223 I HAVE to be able to throw the can on. I might have to get a 2nd one with the bull barrel if I like the coyote.

I got it by ordering it straight from DSA
I just went to the local gun store and paid them $50 to receive it.
I think it was a week or two. Not at all bad

Why is it that the dsa fal style is so popular. I honestly dont understand. It doesn seem like it would be that accurate. Is it a very reliable in all conditions action that is built to withstand harsh environments? What is the lowdown?

A zillion countries use them.
I had an HK91 before this and I think the build quality on the DSA is much better.
Other than that I just like the style of the FN FAL

I looked closely at the Springfield Armory M1A (M14 knock off) which is my all time favorite style but the machined parts detail just wasn't there for me.

Fixed your question: :)
Right but what is the battle rifle of choice for the free world?

Colt/LMT/FN in no particular order.

To paraphrase a SWAT buddy: "Buy a LMT CQB MRP or Colt 6940. Then get whatever exotic **** you want. You'll at least have one combat rifle you can trust your life with."

Actaully I did mean why. All soviet countries it seems use an ak variant and most everyone else has some sort of fal variant. I guess right now I am leaning towards the FNAR but havent committed yet. It still seems like a super expensive Browning BAR to me. But I do like it.

Well I made the purchase. Got the Rock River Coyote to compliment the Rock River entry tactical. Initial thoughts are I love the balance and the way the Ace Skeleton stock feels, After getting it home it is a lot longer than it looked in the store, but that is a moot point. Can't wait to break it in and achieve the 3/4" MOA. Now I need a scope...
