Picked up an Aimpoint

So I finally bought an Aimpoint, I went with the Aimpoint Pro it only ran me about 400 bucks, and from reviews it seems like a damn good sight. The one question is, sighting it in, since you can't shoot high powered rifles at Sams unless you have a membership does Wades still Allow you to? I would like to do it proper so that it's dead on, and do my iron sights at the same time as they seem a little off, and doing it in the woods is a bit of a PITA to bring a table and a sand bag with ya.. Anyways just thought I would throw that out there.

Well for starters do you really want a 25 yard zero? What kind/caliber or rifle is this going on? If it's a .223 out of an AR, a 50 yard zero works great, as you will never be more than about 2.5" high or low from point blank out to about 250 yards. I run a 50 yard zero for my irons and my EOTECH. You can read up on the 50 yard zero here... RIBZ - - Revised Improved Battlesight Zero (now with down-loadable 50 yard zeroing target) - AR15.COM They talk about some custom work an AR irons as well, but check out the bullet drop graphs and you'll see what I mean.

I bring a lil folding table and bags or rest in the woods all the time, no biggie. Or just go prone with bags/rest.

I'm neither young nor agile, but I can sure still go prone easy easy enough. I figure I'm too old to go prone when I need help getting back up, and at that point I'll prolly have a walker or something so I'll just use that as a rest. Improvised shooting positions come in all forms. :rock:

Haha.. Nice Pete, it's going on my AR, I need to go to a range that has designated ranged targets so that I can get it properly dialed in, I still haven't done that with the iron sights on it, it shoots pretty much dead on but it would be nice to have them perfectly setup. Chameleon no pics yet, I bought it online, it'll hopefully be here within a week or so, I'll post pics once i get it mounted.. Hey Pete question for ya, how far forward do you have your Eotech mounted? I know it's personal preference but I'm wondering it it would be good to have it mounted near the end of the rail or closer to my eye that's the one thing I was curious about..

I have mine mounted so the front of it is pretty much flush with the front of the receiver. I have the XPS2 model with the transverse CR123s, so it's fairly short, like 3" of rail space tops.

Holo sights have unlimited eye relief, so in that sense it doesn't really matter. I've played around with where it's mounted, but too far back feels weird, a scope it is not. I spose in theory the farther back you mount it, or should I say the closer your eye is to it, you'd get a wider FOV, but it's pretty wide as is even mounted somewhat forward so that's not really a problem, especially since it's used both eyes open.
