Attended the first of three high power clinics today at the Cascade Shooting Facilities (http://cascadeshootingfacilities.org...linics2012.pdf). It was the first time shooting my M1A, first time shooting any rifle really, and certainly my first time shooting at 200 yards offhand. Great facility out there at Ravensdale, great course content, and the most helpful folks I've come across. I will say that what I've read elsewhere is true: shooting an M14-style rifle on a competition line is a lonely prospect. Of the 35-40 people there, I only saw one other M1A on the line -- it really is an AR-game it seems like! Looking forward to the second and third sessions! Glad you had fun. I e-mailed them to register and they never bothered to get back to me. Oh well, I'll figure this out another way.

Other than the abominable weather (resulted in the folks calling it a day before getting to the rapid fire prone work), was a fantastic class. Fewer people than the offhand class two weeks earlier, and even tougher. In a good way. Seated rapid fire is both much harder and much easier than offhand, and I can't wait to get some more practice. Shot an "unofficial" 87 - 1X my first string, and a 92 -2X on my second string. Great coaching, great staff, and a great facility. Again, I was the lone M1A on the line (that I saw, anyway). But that sure makes it easy to find your brass! I'm entering the offhand match being held at CSF tomorrow (Sunday) to see how it all goes down "for real". Hope some of you will be there. Two clinics down, the third to go -- 600 yard slow fire prone and wind estimation. Promises to be a real treat. By the by, there were folks at this second clinic that weren't in the first class. I would expect that there will be those that haven't been to the first two to show up to the third -- so if you've tried to sign up for the first ones, but didn't get in for whatever reason, try for the third! The folks running this thing and showing up to help coach and run the pits (even that smiling, friendly gentleman at the Cascade gate) are a class act. |
