Hey all, I'm looking into getting an Ak-74 and I have a few questions. I already know the manual of arms and so forth but I'm not really familiar with how individual guns are as far as quality. There is a Lancaster Arms gun on Aimsurplus and a Bulgarian NDS-2 on jgsales.com. Both seem like they're priced right but which would be the better gun? If any of you have any knowledge in this area I'd appreciate your feedback.

i got a bulgarian ak74. its a sweet rifle and way cheaper to shoot than the ar! very acurate, tho I just have iron sites. i dont know anything about those two companies, but I assume it was just a demilitarized rifle then assembled buy that company... hard to mess that up since they were built in their former countries..

Sounds good man, I will not be able to get one for a little while because it is number two on the purchase list but I am trying to do my research now so that I can jump on one when funds permit. Also, can we ship ammo strait to our house in Washington? It seems hard to find 5.45x39 and I would rather order in bulk but I'm not sure if it is allowed. Does anyone know if we must ship ammo to an ffl?

Dude, 5.45x39 is DIRT cheap compared to .223 and 7.62x39.. You can normally get a 1,100 rnd case for 120-140 bucks. Check Aimsurplus, or Ammunitiontogo.com or CheaperThandirt.com Edit. http://www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/R...45x39_FMJ.html |

Wow, I was told by a local gunshop that ammo had to be shipped to an FFL in Washington State. I wonder if he was mistaken or if he just lied to try to boost his sales. He also told me that we still have to pay Washington State sales tax when we have a gun shipped to an ffl from another State. Does anyone know if this is the case?

FFL's normally get a bit of a discount from the online places, so he was probably just wanting to pocket the difference. Get your C&R FFL and you can get the same discount just FYI. T |

I Have had my C&R for a while now and there's actually a pretty big list of online places that will give you a pretty good discount on merchandise, buying one or two old guns will pay for the C&R itself, It's only $30 for 3 years I want to say.

HMMM... Sounds interesting. How long might it take to get an ffl? Is it something you do by mail? Also, is there a whole bunch of paper work each year?

It's Pretty starightforward, I actually have an application kicking around. It's only 4 pages, takes 15 minutes or so to fill out, as for logging firearms there's a really simple logging sheet they can send out to you or you can make your own in Excell or what not.

Thanks fellas! I may look into doing that. Are there any other big positives to being an ffl?

Also, does anyone know if you have to sell yourself ammo and guns and pay sales tax and so forth or can you just transfer to yourself?

The biggest advantage of the C&R FFL is the discounts, unless you collect older milsurp rifles and such. | |

I thought if you were an FFL you could no longer buy or sell fireamrs with out regestering them. That is a HUGE minus in my book.

You could still buy private party at gun shows.

Do you still need a place of business to hold a C&R?

That's good to know that you fellas in Washington DO have ammo shipped direct. I will probably not be doing business with this shop anytime soon. They have decent prices from time to time but it really bothers me that the shop fellow either lied or was misinformed. Either way, I think it should be common knowledge for someone in his profession.
