How much is an SKS worth?

I want to buy an SKS to play around with, but how much are they really worth? I saw one here in Spokane for $325 for a decent yugoslavian. I saw one at a pawn shop in Moscow ID for $250, but it was missing the bolt and didn't have the bayonet. I always thought they were pretty cheap. Guess I was wrong.

I want one, but I don't want to get ripped off.

sometimes you can get them at big 5 for around 200. If you do get a big 5 one make sure you take it completely apart and soak every metal peace in cleaner because they are heavily coated in preservative.

I just picked up a very sweet Norinco at the gun show in Centralia, this past weekend for $225. A guy had it with him and was just walking the show. The SKS came with an AK-47 clip (I think the guy had purchased it long ago thinking it would fit), extra bayonet and a box of 9mm ammo he happened to have with him. The guy bought it way back when they were cheap, fired it back then and then put it under his bed for the past 15 years. Numbers all match on stock, bolt & magazine. I don't really care, but it's nice to see that. I walked over to another vendor that sells AK & SKS parts and traded the AK magazine and extra bayonet for a bipod, muzzle break and NcStar tri-point mount + gave him $15. Out the door with goodies for $240 & a $15 box of 9mm. I was happy. Got home and had to mill the new scope mount to fit, but not really a problem. The gas port was pretty caked with residue and everything was really dirty, but got it all cleaned up. Even had the original cleaning kit in the butt, although I think the Chinese thought that's where all the extra cosmoline should go...Holy Crap that thing was full. But, I think this Norinco should shoot just as well as my Yugo.
