Anyone have a light pull trigger in their .22?

I want one and would love to learn how to take mine apart and put it back together.

Looking for something in the 3lb range or so.

From some of the reading I've done, it looks like the hammer needs to be replaced?

I can use all the advice/info anyone might have for this project. Here's a pic of the gun to be "modified":

Volquartsen hammer will run about $50. Take about a half hour to install first time you take it apart.

What scope do you have? I'm not overjoyed with the scope I have, kinda want a new one but not willing to spend a bunch of $$ on it.

Leupold VX-1 4-12x40. It wasn't cheap. :tard:

Sighted it in @ 100 yards on Sunday. 3/4" to 1" grouping. Last shot I took with it was about 1/8" off of dead center. I quit making adjustments at that point... LOL

First off nice dsp. If you want to do your own trigger job i'd suggest a kit from swampfox on RFC Home. Or if your lazy like me and want a 2 1/2 lb trigger but don't want to do all the work(he'll put it at whatever weight you want). He does a full trigger job for $65(no creep, or overtravel, light pull, auto bolt release mod, and everything just smoother and better). I had mine back in just over 2 weeks and thats with mailing it to alabama or wherever he lives.

Or check out the stickies here for how to do just about anything to your 10/22 your could think of. 10/22 Tips & Tricks - RimfireCentral.com Forums In my opinion this is the 10/22 forum.

If your wiling to spend just over $100. Check out Mueller. I've got a Mueller APV on my 10/22 and it's clear bright and powerful. It's 4.5-14x40 AO. So you can adjust the parallax and focus up close unlike most big bore scopes that are set at 100 yards, so up close they're fuzzy. Here's an ebay link Mueller: APV Black 4.5-14X40AO Rifle Scope and FREE 3" - eBay (item 200308502811 end time Feb-14-09 16:29:36 PST)

I'm actually thinking about selling mine and getting the Mueller 8.5-25x44AO Tactical with the target turrets, mildot reticle for distance shooting.

no... $50 for the hammer. There are several that are in the $200 range - like Jard with a 2lb pull wt. Sweet, but out of my price range.

Ok Hornet has got a reworked trigged in polymer housing for $94
now they have a cast aluminum housing 2 stage trigger assembly for $150
Val trigger assembly cncd trigger housing $200
Kidd Trigger assembly CND fully adjustible oooh manz thats nice for $280

at first i was gonna get the 95 but im having serious question about the polymer trigger housing

if i had the money id get a Kidd with a 17hm2 barrel and heavy bolt (400 sumptin kit)

Ok now i got that out the way my problems are:
Plastic on guns sucks balls used to get brittle and break
cast aluminum more sturdy than plastic but can break along flaws in the cast
CNC is the way to go but out of budget right now
gimme some thoughts

Yeah, the hammer is a fantastic mod too. Almost as good as the full VQ trigger, and 1/4 the price. I only have the hammer in mine, and I'm very happy with it.

So I finally made up my mind on what to do. Here's the parts I ordered:

Power Custom Competition trigger kit

TEN22 InnovationsShockStop Bolt Buffer

Volquartsen 10/22 Exact Edge Extractor

I didn't necessarily need the new extractor. Not having issues with my current one. But I figured $8 was cheap insurance to not have to tear down my setup again. I'd rather do it all at once and be done with it.

Everything was ordered from this website: HawkTech Arms

Total was $111.85 and they apparently offer free shipping.

when you put it together, try it with the PC hammer and trigger return springs, then try it with the stock springs. The ruger springs may give a lighter pull. I picked that up on a Volquartsen hammer I replaced a while back. Just see which one feels better.

So the trigger before:

And the trigger now:

All in all, it took about 2 hours. Not because it was all that difficult, but because I had to do a ton of cleaning along the way. (First time I've completely stripped my rifle apart.)

Everything fit like a charm. Didn't have to do any stoning (filing) or anything. Kit was 100% fit and exactly as advertised. Trigger is as smooth as butter. I also got the trigger stop adjusted so there's about 1/100th of an inch of travel for after the trigger releases the hammer. I left the new springs in as I am overwhelmingly happy with the results. I'm not an expert, but I'd guess the pull is probably 2.5 or 2.6 lbs by guessing. But like I said... smooth as butter and none of that stock "gritty" feel to it.

I couldn't ask for a better kit. I didn't use the instructions that came with it... I just worked on the fly and did my best to pay attention to what came from where. It worked out pretty damn well i must say.

I actually had a blast doing this. If anyone else decides to do this and wants a hand, let me know. I'd love to get to do this again. Now that I've done it once...

Wow, thats amazing accuracy, you got a good one! What ammo? my new T model wont do that at 50yds, not with the federal bulk cheap ammo any way :)
