Hi All,

You have to be on your A game constantly, and lucky sometimes too.

So...my neighborly LGS/locksmith has had a couple commercial SKSs in his rack for over a year, priced at $600 each. Which is about the going price for pre-ban, newer production SKS, in a Kali gun shop, and I've seen them sell for that. Pinned barrels, stamped TG, one still has cosmoline in the bolt, and doesn't appear to have been fired, is all matching #s. But the other one has no #s on mag, no bayo, a receiver scope mount, and is in an ATI Monte, but is otherwise in as new condition as well, TG & bolt match.

So I stopped by his shop last Saturday morning and got to talking about his 2 over priced SKSs that haven't moved (technically not C&R, but SKSs none the less). He said make an offer, so I did and now have 2, newer production SKSs in Kali jail. The pre-Bubbad unit is just what I've been looking for as a project, as it's commercial (to me), and missing things. I've got replacements for what's gone, including un-numbered furniture, but I'll do better to hold on to those parts for an old war horse.

The other I'll keep as is for an example of a late production model, or maybe later clone out a Paratrooper with the stock FSB. As I said this one is all matching and looks to not have been fired. Might even have a box.

Saturday evening all that craziness happened, so I made firm offers on a couple other SKSs I'd been haggling over, and they were accepted too. Then Sunday, after I got off 3rd shift, I used up my SG coupons and picked up a few bricks of X39. Last month I drove 70 miles round trip, and picked up a slug of M67 Yugo, and started a weekly buy of bricks of .22 for $35 bucks. That's the first time I've bought those since they were $10 bucks.

And sometimes you have to not be a cheapskate, especially for .22, and here in Kali. The beast is upon us again. PAX

Lets see some pics!! I have an old SKS in the safe. I don't know Jack about it.. but it looks like it was carried for 15 yrs.. The wood in the forstock is worn down so far, the pins are sticking out.. It's got a bayonet etc.

I don't know which country it was made in, or where it saw duty, but its still fun to shoot.

If I'm not too lazy i'll bust it out and take a pic.. Maybe you'll recognize some of the markings.

They're either in 10 day Kali jail, or in transit to be. I've been on a roll with SKS. A Russian, 2 Albys, a Yugo M59/66, and 5 China dolls within the last year. PAX

So I picked up my 2 newer production SKSs today. Both pinned barrels, stamped TGs, but only one says "MADE BY NORINCO". No arsenal stamp and it only has matching numbers on the receiver and bolt carrier, in the 44XXX range. No numbers on all the usual places. Mag, TG, receiver cover, stock, have no numbers at all, imported by CSI ONT, CA.

The other rifle is in the 22 million range from arsenal [0141], imported by KFS ATL, GA. All numbers present match, but has after market receiver cover mount, and came in an ATI Monty, no bayo, sling, or rod. Just because I wanted to see the mock-up, I put on a 4X28 scope, and bedded the works in a discontinued Timbersmith Monty. The Timbersmith is at least as heavy as the ATI, but the wrist is better for my hand, and the laminate is flat beautiful. I plan to pull the FSB off, and replace it with one that's had the bayo lug and rod guides ground off and re-blued, and use a flush 5 round mag. Both have acceptable triggers. PAX
