Hi Fellas,

Went to my FFL to give my latest acquisitions the once over. To say the least I'm happy. I horse traded a rough VZ24 Turk for a slingless, mismatched, refurbed M44, that looks like it went door to door, rousting Nazis in Stalingrad. Calguns "TBM 1"'s gave me a heads up on an SKS that Pacific Tool had, and was in fact a very nice deal for the money. The picture they listed was accurate. Ugly leaf-rattle-can-camo paint job, made uglier with add on rubber recoil pad and backwards installed spring attached sling......but
ALL MATCHING NUMBERS, even the wood, with cleaning rod & kit in the stock. Late pinned barrel /26\ with a good crown, shinny bore, decent bluing, tiny CAI import stamp under spiker. Didn't check the sear engagement, but otherwise it looks like an easy save/resto project, at a fair price. I'm thinking the paint strip efforts will equal decosmofizing. One more SKS in the rack, thanks T.

This place doesn't seem to have a lot of activity does it. PAX

NOW with PICTURES

Hi Fellas,

Finally got around to picking up my $250 SKS from my FFL. This is the mongrel dog as received. After giving it a close look over I found some features I've not seen before. First was the sling. I haven't encountered spring retainers with that type of adjustment hasp, usually those have a keeper with a slide. Pinned barrel, milled TG, grey bolt carrier.

I was mistaken on the arsenal. It's /416\# 21006149. All matching, bolt too, but the stock couldn't be easily salvaged, so I turned the Khyber Pass Fab Team loose on it. Looks like someone tried to "battle" age it, with kill hash marks and scratches, couple drill holes. Does not reek of "been there done that" NOT. Bubba screwed up a good piece of wood, but it's only a Chinese...right.

After the moral equivalent of decosmolizing (paint stripping), the metal bits revealed quite a surprise.

Half a day of elbow grease between chores, and look what was under it all. Doesn't look to have been fired much, at all.

I had a nice pinned barrel side sling mount stock on it at first, but it was numbered.

Replaced with a blank pinned stock instead.

Didn't strip the bayo handle or cleaning rod yet, but it's an operationally functioning battle rifle. For now I'm done. Khyber Pass Fabrication Shop saves another. Thanks TBM 1 & Glocked@45, PAX
