Hey guys, I found a good deal on VZ 24 so I thought I would put my CnR to use and I'm just curious if anyone has one and if they like it? From the reasearch i've done it seems to be a pretty good sturdy rifle being a copy of a mauser I would expect that. If anyone has one or had one lemme know if you liked it, didn't like it etc.

I have a Yugo M48 and I love it. Basically the same gun. Hard to go wrong with anything Mauser.. Check out surplusrifle.com. There is an entire forum on surplus mausers and good info on them.. You'll love how cheap the ammo is too. I've shot 30's greek all the way up to 80's romanian 8mm in mine and never had a problem.

Well, If i'm buying antique guns like the mauser, or M1 Garand, WW2 Pistols etc I can have them shipped directly to me rather than having to pay an FFL for a transfer. The C&R only costs 30 bucks and its good for 3 years, most FFL dealers charge 40-50 for a transfer. It will have paid for itself with 1 purchase, Also alot of places will give you dealer prices on parts and ammo, like Brownells and Midway and a few others. It's easy to get so there was no reason not to.

FYI- Another great thing about the VZ mausers is that the receiver makes a good start for a custom rifle. I've found the VZ rifle's i've received in the past have had smooth actions, with pretty tight tolerances given their manufacture date. I've also found their fit to after market mauser stocks and barrels better than some of the mauser receivers, excepting the k98 of course. Though, in my opinion it's a bit of a travesty to hack apart a fine working example of the k series.

When they first came on the surplus market 15+ years ago, the k's were more affordable. You'd be hard pressed to find a wehrmacht marked (Eagle and Cross, NOT Swastika) k98 in good condition these days for less than $500 bucks, not to mention the premium the sniper and paratrooper models bring.

Anywho old post, just wanted to give it an update in case anyone was curious about building a custom gun on the vz receiver. I've done .308, 22-250 Ackley Improved (my favorite cartridge), and 30-06 conversions with success. Though the magazine well won't feed the smaller 22-250 cartridge reliably, you'll need to install a single shot follower.

Enjoy, even in the original package these rifles are a hoot to shoot.
