How do you unload a Muzzle loader?

Couple different methods.

If it came with the ram rod kit that has a screw tip, screw it into the bullet and pull it out. Then do the same for the wadding.

Otherwise, have to take the barrel off and remove the breech plug. If you can't do this take it to a gun smith.

There is also a CO2 unloader depending on your model. Will have to get an adapter to fit your gun. Kinda like this:

You can put a cap in it but that may not do it. I would use the screw on ball remover tip on your ram rod. If you dont have one you should get one if you plan on shooting black powder. The cap is risky if there is more than one load in it as many old rmuzzle loaders have.

If you put a cap in it and shoot it make sure to set up the video camera and post the video please. I would use the screw method if your ram rod doesn't have a screw tip on it, if I remember right I think the electricians wire pulling fish stick set at Harbour Freight has a screw tip attatchment they were under 10 bucks when I bought one last year. It came in a clear plastic tube with 4 0r 5 yellow fiberglass rods in it and attatchments.

If it's a inline, just remove the BP. No makey sparks

My father in law who collects muzzle loaders says some of the old ones from battle will have 3+ loads in it. Poor soldiers panicking as they are charged and miss the first powder load and just think its empty and keep stuffing it.

Remove the nipple, and use a air compressor.
Point it in a safe direction, and hit the air.

Would using a worm on the end of a cleaning rod risk igniting blackpowder? Were worms originally brass to avoid a spark in the barrel. I Knew that in combat in the civil war guys would just load and load and forget to fire, but never thought out how they would fix the situation. this is an interesting historical question.

Too bad I didn't see this earlier. I have an unloader that used CO2, and could have fixed you up in 5min or less.

Also could have taken you out and given you the rundown on black powder's messy awesome fun.
