So in 1 month I will be making a roughly 4000-5000 mile road trip leaving AZ heading up the pacific coast to Bellingham and then returning through Colorado and New Mexico. I only have my Washington concealed permit (AZ doesnt require one!). I know what states honor WA permits as well as what it takes to obtain permits for all 9 states that i will be traveling through. My real question is, how many of you ignore these laws and carry anyways? I know about the "right to peaceful journey" claus/loophole. Should i call the various agencies and ask them first handed if they honor this or not? Oh ya, this will be on 2 wheels as well. |

put it in your bag and they should not bother you about it, carry it on your person and they findout in Oregon you may be in trouble

List out what states you're going to be driving through...then I can help. But most likely, you're going to need to unload the gun and put it in the trunk of your car for nearly every state except for AZ. You can transport it under the "peaceful journey" clause but you can't carry it. I've made similar trips many times...and I would not ignore those laws. Especially in CA but OR is pretty bad as well. That's a good way to get a felony charge and lose ALL your guns. Oh...and now I see you're making this trip on a bike. Ummm...yeah...I'd recommend you contact an attorney. This sounds like a legal nightmare. Also, that "peaceful journey" clause you speak of, it only protects you if you're making a purposeful stops...for gas, for rest, for food. If you stop in California to catch a Dodgers game or something, you're in a legal gray area. Good luck. Last edited by benja455; 06-19-2010 at 08:17 AM. Reason: Traveling via bike |

Oregon doesn't recognize any other states ccw so if you have saddle bags or an under the seat compartment, I would highly recommend keeping it unloaded and in there. atleast while you drive through Oregon.
