I'm wondering if anybody knows if this is correct and if so why? I live in washington with a cpl in washington and also a chl in oregon. Now i was at a gun show at the portland expo center and was going to buy a pistol, and was told that even though i have a chl in oregon that i can't buy the pistol and take it with me because i live in washington.WTF Why is this? |

I believe it is correct & it is my understanding that if you purchase a handgun from any FFL dealer the paperwork has to be ran through an FFL in the state that you reside. No matter how many states you carry a CPL from. Kinda stupid, but so are many of the firearms laws that we have to deal with. |

Well thanks for the reply,i was hoping the gun sales person was mistaken but figured that wasn't the case.I could have wandered around and asked other venders at the show but i was bummed so i left. |

That is correct info and it is because of Federal law, ATF Online - Firearms - Frequently Asked Questions - Unlicensed Persons Basically you can buy any style of gun in your state FFL or private. Out of state you can ONLY buy long guns AND ONLY from an FFL |

That is correct. Under Federal law, not state law, a handgun cannot be bought in a state that you are not a resident of. This is in the information that I got when I got my FFL as a firearms manufacturer.
