So I was reading on Reddit that once a person starts carrying concealed they can never escalate or retaliate to someone's verbal attacks or even slight physical encounters (like hitting you with their shoulder as they pass you). They were saying you just take whatever they say and walk away from it no matter what they do say. So what's your take on that? Is that accurate? It totally makes sense now that I've heard it.

That's what you should do anyway. It's not like by retaliating to a shoulder bump you're going to teach the dick a lesson. Besides, if you are armed and YOU escalate, ****'s on you. Highly recommend you take a class in your state to find out the local laws.
I'm not trying to get a permit and carry right now. I was just curious about it because I like to learn stuff.
Agreed with RK. They say an armed society is a polite society and the reality is that's more true because those who carry should always be polite and courteous in any situation. If you have to use you're firearm in self defense you'll need to show that you did everything in your power to avoid having to take that final step until either your life was in jeopardy or there was imminent threat of great bodily harm.
I read a good article on this a while back. In a nutshell the idea is that once you decide to carry, you're the bigger man. You don't escalate things -- you bow out. You don't have heated arguments, you acquiesce. You aren't the husband/father that is abusive (verbally or otherwise) with your wife/kids. You take on the persona of "cooler heads will prevail", that sort of thing...
Reminds me of competent martial artists -- typically very mellow/humble and not interested in fighting.
And it's always funny to me when chest beaters talk about how they're so badass and how they'd "handle situations". I can't help but think how far they missed the boat.
But as far as a rule, guideline or law -- there's no such beast that I know of.
There is nothing that says you can't respond, but the general consensus is that it's not worth it. You can not escalate the sittuation yourself without putting yourself on shaky legal grounds, but you don't have to be a doormat. The question you need to ask yourself is what is more important, your pride with relation to a complete stranger, or going home without having to shoot someone.
The basic premise behind that is if you are armed an escalate a situation, to the point where you have to use your firearm, it will likely look very, very bad to a jury. You will be painted as 'trigger happy' and 'looking to shoot someone' by the prosecution, and since you were the one who escalated it, will have a tough time convincing the jury otherwise.
As Richard stated, once you decide to carry, you should be doing your level best to AVOID any situation where you have to use that firearm. It is a last resort, when you have NO CHOICE but to use force to defend yourself. If you're the aggressor, it's not defense.
