Hi I am a Nevada resident, whose job has me going to Sumner at least once a month for at least a week. I currently hold my NV resident CCW, and was wondering how difficult is it for an out of state resident to apply for a CCW from Sumner PD.

The reason why I ask is the Sumner PD website states
(If you live outside the City Limits of Sumner, you will be directed to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department or the city agency where you reside.)

Whereas WA state licensing website says that I can apply at any police department, however it does not say if the local PD has to accept and process the application. So my question is would it be worth going to the Sumner PD and submit my app, or just save the hassle and go the Pierce County SO?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you for the reply, this is good to know. The WA State Licensing website gave me the impression that I could apply at the Sumner PD.

If you live…

Apply at…

In an unincorporated area of a county in Washington State

Your county sheriff’s office

In an incorporated city or town in Washington State

•The police department in your city or town
or
•Your county sheriff’s office

Outside of Washington State (not a Washington resident)

Any local law enforcement agency in Washington

Following up on my post there, there's no provision advertised on Sumner PD's site to get a CPL.
I'd bet bucks to doughnuts that this is going to be a Pierce County issue. I live in University Place and it's downtown to LESA I went.

When I moved to Washington, first thing I did was go get my CPP. Of course, at the time I was not a Washington resident. I have since gone through the process as a resident, and it was no different, other than I had to make sure I was going to the PD that had jurisdiction where I lived.

For my "non-resident" CPP I went to the Redmond (town near Seattle) PD during their "advertised hours", filled out the paperwork, paid, and received my permit by mail a few weeks later. I imagine that Sumner operates in a similar manner. Call to be sure.
