I typically carry my P229 in a Galco Miami Vice shoulder holster. I like the Galco Speed Paddle for my Kimber & my S&W 2". I imagine that same holster would work great with the 229 as well..

I prefer a milt sparks vm2, I've been wearing one for about 5 years and so far it's been the best holster I've owned, I've also have galco, blackhawk, gcode and an incog, for my body the milt sparks has been the best

I don't have a P229, but my friend does, and he uses the Crossbreed Supertuck. I use the same holster for my XDm, and we are both happy with it. First holster I ever bought, and I still haven't found any to replace it (probably because I am too cheap to pay $150 for a really nice one).

I have both a P229 as well as an XD9 Subcompact. I carry the XD daily in a CrossBreed SuperTuck Deluxe in horsehide, and have for the last couple years. I'll be ordering one for my P229 -- why mess with perfection?

Buddy of mine, who is since become an adjunct instructor at a well-regarded NW WA training organization (self defense), carried a P229 for awhile. In 40 S&W.

In the end, it wasn't for him: switched to another option, let's not go there to keep focused on the carry vs. the caliber, capacity, and brand. I will say he felt double-stack was a bit wide for certain kinds of carry. I share the sentiment and only do single-stack. But I have carried double-stack: seems a bit too-wide for IWB, IMO, but nothing wrong with it for OWB. Maybe thinner guys have a better time of double-stack and IWB.

My buddy was and is into simple but effective solutions. Kramer Leather is here in NW WA and has a presence at the WAC shows big-time. I've had their products and NO complaints (IWB, for Glock 26, way back when). May wish to take some training using both Kramer (or other horse hide) and Kydex, see if you prefer one over the other. At-worst you've got an extra holster or two, which can be unloaded somewhere for $.50 on the dollar or tossed into a drawer. I tried various options before figuring out what works best for my particulars.

Everything I've had from Milt Sparks, Kramer, and Alessi has been top-notch. I'm sure there are many other good options, too, as mentioned in this thread. Kramer just seems particularly convenient due to their Tacoma location.

I don't have a P229, but in my opinion it all comes down to fit/comfort. Most suggestions are going to be "great" holsters that are high quality. And most holsters that I've seen are made in the USA. But it comes down to your preference -- and unless you have an identical twin, there's really no way to intelligently choose without trying.

My suggestion is to order a few and be prepared to return the ones that don't fit you well. Among others for my current carry piece I chose Galco, Crossbreed (SuperTuck) and N8Tactical. They all have liberal return policies and are made in the USA.

But for ME, there was no question as to which was most comfortable for MY body. So, I kept that one and got rid of the others.

BTW, I'm assuming you're looking for an IWB option. If not, you might want to clarify -- because a shoulder rig or OWB is going to get you different responses...
