Carrying in a satchel

I have long had a habit of carrying with me a leather satchel. I'll be getting my CCW soon and was wondering about the pros and cons of carrying a firearm in a satchel and how I should go about it.

If you look up all the articles on carrying in a purse, they all apply to carrying a satchel. It's not the ideal carry style because you are more easily separated from your weapon. In a defensive scenario, it's not likely you will have time to retrieve it as easily as you can from a holster on your body.

Fast Eddie is right. Off body carry is not ideal, but plenty of people do it, for a variety of reasons. Just be sure you will stay in direct control of your bag at all times, unless you want to be without your firearm, or have to worry about who might get into the bag.

Most experts will tell you that keeping your gun on your body somehow is better than in a bag, but a gun in a bag is better than no gun at all.
