Cleaning my M44

Hey guy's I went shooting last week, put about 60 rounds through the M44, brought it home and started cleaning it, I put a big shot of the foaming solvent down the barrel, put 10 or so patches down, and the 10th patch was coming out just as dirty as the first. Repeated and got the same result. A gunsmith recommended plugging the barrel, then putting hot water mixed with a little dawn down the barrel and letting it sit for about 30 minutes before running patches down.

I did that and it helped quite a bit, but it's still fairly dirty. So another person recommended doing a 50/50 mix of white vinegar and Hydrogen Peroxide, plugging the barrel pouring it in, and letting it sit overnight. I was just wondering if anyone on here has done that before? I wasn't sure if you're supposed to mix the two of those, so I just wanted to ask before I went ahead and tried..

scrub the **** out of it with a PLASTIC brush.

then, it will be clean enough.

promise.

it's not a competition rifle.

I used to run dawn through mine with what amounted to a very small beer bong. A drop of dawn in the funnel and run HOT water through it until it wasn't soapy anymore, then a bunch of patches with solvent, then dry it, then an oil patch.

but...really only if you're shooting corrosive stuff

H2O2 is a strong oxidizer, not sure I'd want that to sit in a barrel overnight.

Mine took a looooong time go get properly clean, but mild solvent and a plastic brush did the trick.

I've been thinking about trying out that frog lube stuff on my M44 as a tester. I'll let you know how it goes if I do.

Cool, thanks for the input guys, I really appreciate it. I think the ammo I'm shooting is corrosive, shooting Surplus Russian, and Bulgarian ammunition. In the end I would rather be safe than sorry.

If your barrel is really bad, you should try the electrolysis cleaning method. Do a Google search on how to do it and give it a try. I made my own electrolysis cleaning rig, its easy to make and to use and will get all of the crap out of your barrel.

I know this is an old thread, but maybe it will help someone with a really dirty barrel that they can`t get clean.

Check out the link below.

dumb question..

Is your cleaning brush/plug the right size for the barrel?
If it's undersized it will take forever to clean.

I started using glass cleaner and a not so worn out brush. scrub the hell outta the thing with glass cleaner in the barrel (from breech side) and it gets clean much faster.
Which of course reminds me I have some mausers to clean. :banghead:
