Ive been OCing for a few months in the Salem area and Ive been looking over a lot of the Oregon and Salem laws quite a bit. I ended up getting a question from my mother about concealed carry. She wanted to know if its legal to conceal carry on your own private property. She of course doesnt want any issues with the LEOs since she is in law enforcement herself. I would assume that you cant because she is in the city limits of Salem, but I figured I would ask. Thanks guys. |

You can carry concealed on your own private property without needing the permit. Even with it being in city limits. Its the discharging of the firearm inside city limits that would be illegal, unless of course it's in self defense of your life.

Simply by virtue of being on ones own property, any firearm is more or less "concealed" from the public. My attitude is that any good citizen should only be required to verify where his gun came from. (specific dealer/private trade seller) if and when questioned by the appropriate authority. If you follow that rule, even a "glove boxing" should not lead to any real problem. This is a very good reason to not omit the transfer paperwork if you are to pick up anything from a party not well known to you. V |

You are not required in the state of Oregon to have any kind of paperwork involving private firearms deals. If you do not have your concealed permit DO NOT put a gun in your glove box! Don't keep it anywhere near you if it's concealed. keep it in the trunk or away from anywhere you could reach it from the driver's seat and unloaded. If its not concealed you can legally leave it in the open while in your vehicle though. Remember that not all police are familiar with all of the gun laws so if a cop does or acts in someway contrary to the law you just comply with their orders and wait for it to be resolved.
