Ha Ha! James, I just realized you're the same person over on the other site. The only thing is, if this bill passes; I just wasted a bunch of cash getting my Utah permit. LOL

Too many dems/libs. I don't like to be a naysayer but I don't believe it will make it through (as much as I want it to)

I'm sorry but this concerns me. I'm afraid they're going to require a "National Standard" which could turn our simple "Will Issue" situation, at least in WA, into something much more difficult. I would hate to see them raise us all up to tightest standard.

I have issues with this as well. I'd love to see something like this approved by each state but I don't want our federal government sticking it's hand into this. Whatever happened to states rights? How does this tie into interstate commerce? Once they get their hands on this, then it can be screwed with.

Doesn't Utah issue CCW that are honored in like 34 states or something? **** the other 16.

Utah Department of Public Safety

They sure do except some States are now passing legislation that requires any permit they honor be issued by the carrier's State of residence. So much for Utah being the Universal Permit in the future if this takes hold.

If the national reciprocity bill passes the House, there is still the Senate to go and let's not forget that unless it passes there with a "veto proof" majority, it still has to be signed by "you know who".

Since our state is represented by a couple of morons in the Senate I doubt they will be voting for it unless someone did actually hold a gun to their heads.

Be careful of what you wish for! If the Dems load it up with amendments the bill could wind up being a gun registration fiasco. The bill as it presently is written is OK; I'm afraid some of the gun grabbers will turn it into a nightmare!

no more Federal encroachment

I am not really too keen on any more Federal government encroachment on States' rights. We need less federal government, not more legislation from inside "the Beltway."----no matter the (well intended) issue.

YMMV,

U.S. House Passes NRA-backed National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Legislation

U.S. House Passes NRA-backed National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Legislation

The U.S. House of Representatives has passed an important self-defense measure that would enable millions of Right-to-Carry permit holders across the country to carry concealed firearms while traveling outside their home states. H.R. 822, the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act, passed by a majority bipartisan vote of 272 to 154. All amendments aimed to weaken or damage the integrity of this bill were defeated.

“NRA has made the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act a priority because it enhances the fundamental right to self-defense guaranteed to all law-abiding people,” said Chris W. Cox, executive director of NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action. “People are not immune from crime when they cross state lines. That is why it is vital for them to be able to defend themselves and their loved ones should the need arise.”

H.R. 822, introduced in the U.S. House by Representatives Cliff Stearns (R-Fla.) and Heath Shuler (D-N.C.), allows any person with a valid state-issued concealed firearm permit to carry a concealed firearm in any state that issues concealed firearm permits, or that does not prohibit the carrying of concealed firearms for lawful purposes.

This bill does not affect existing state laws. State laws governing where concealed firearms may be carried would apply within each state’s borders. H.R. 822 does not create a federal licensing system or impose federal standards on state permits; rather, it requires the states to recognize each others' carry permits, just as they recognize drivers' licenses and carry permits held by armored car guards.

As of today, 49 states have laws in place that permit their citizens to carry a concealed firearm in some form. Only Illinois and the District of Columbia deny its residents the right to carry concealed firearms outside their homes or businesses for self-defense.

“We are grateful for the support of Speaker Boehner, Majority Leader Cantor, Majority Whip McCarthy, Judiciary Chairman Smith and primary sponsors Congressmen Stearns and Shuler for their steadfast support of H.R. 822. Thanks to the persistence of millions of American gun owners and NRA members, Congress has moved one step closer to improving crucial self-defense laws in this country,” concluded Cox.

Anyone else see this drivel in the Seattle Times?

Congress once again protects our rights to life, liberty and a loaded pistol | Seattle Times Newspaper

Once again, I would love to hear the author of this article explain why states/cities with the strictest gun control have the highest rates of violent crime, and the states with the most liberal gun laws have the lowest?

It never ceases to amaze me how many people seem to think that guns are the source and cause of violence (not the people wielding them), and if only we could get rid of the guns, we would have a totally crime free, hugs all around society. People have been killing each other since the days of cavemen, guns are just more efficient than clubs, knives or swords. Removing the tool does not remove the mindset to do harm to others.

Let's not forget that Sampson slew a thousand Philistines using the jawbone of an ass. Does that mean we should outlaw both Donkeys and Politicians?:headscratch:
