The message I sent to these morons....

With all the problems we have facing us in America today the best thing you have to do is try to take away gun rights?
Are you nuts?
Try focusing your energy on something more productive like getting jobs for people and the economy working again.

HeraldNet: ‘Arms’ are weapons; we have a right to them

Here's the bullet points: <-pun intended

After a few years of well-deserved obscurity, Washington CeaseFire is back on the scene after finding a few legislators willing to sponsor their so-called “Assault Weapon” bill again. And in the classically reprehensible CeaseFire tradition of pasting the names of murder victims on their bills and fundraising projects, they’re calling it the “Aaron Sullivan” bill. This hearkens back to the days of their “Columbine Memorial” fundraising events, among many others.

Ceasefire and its legislative supporters are making this issue about “weapons of war” and how citizens have no real right to own them.

rom Black’s Law Dictionary, 1891: “This term, as it is used in the constitution, relative to the right of citizens to bear arms, refers to the arms of a militiaman or soldier, and the word is used in its military sense. The arms of the infantry soldier are the musket and bayonet; of cavalry and dragoons, the sabre, holster pistols, and carbine.”

From the Century Dictionary, 1890: “‘Repeating arms,’ arms that can be discharged a number of times without being reloaded. ‘Small arms,’ all weapons not requiring carriages, as opposed to artillery, including rifles, muskets, bayonets, pistols, revolvers, sabers, and swords; also sporting weapons.”

From Webster’s Dictionary, 1884: “Weapons of offense, or armor for defense and protection of the body.”

Ralph Fascitelli, board president of Washington CeaseFire, isn’t after the relatively harmless-looking sporting weapons, at least not this time. But what does he say about people who use them? “Anybody that uses a semi-automatic to hunt is an animal assassin. You know, that’s someone who would take an M-80 and throw it in a pond of water to kill fish,” said Fascitelli in a recent KING 5 interview.
Here we get to the nub of it, what really drives him and his vice president, Jon Scholes, who while working for King County Council member Julia Patterson was famously quoted as telling a constituent, “I don’t spend my time talking to people like you.”
What seems to drive them is prejudice and hatred of people who aren’t like them. Overall, not a good basis for public policy decisions.

Well, this years session starts Jan. 11 (Monday). I'll be keeping an eye on any bills these 3 are sponsoring, and hopefully, we'll find out quickly which committee this bill will go into after the initial review. Then, we all can pray it ends up in a committee weighted with Republicans, if that's the case, it's likely to die in committee. However, if it's a Democrat weighed committee, we are likely to see it come to the floor. That's when we have to worry. I already have a group ready to go testify and such, if it hits a D committee. Anyone else game to go? Anyone else doing anything about this, or are people going to gripe and let the Washington Sleaze...errr...Ceasefire group get their voice heard instead?

NRA will probably become involved at the appropriate time.

Washington State is getting pretty wacky.
Give felons the vote and ban guns. What's next?

Probably, is my worry. Not that you are saying this, but, sitting back and hoping someone else is going to take care of the problem, is why we have already lost so many rights across the board.

Liberty is most at risk when, those who stand to lose it, stand idly by.

Police chiefs call for a state ban

Larry Simoneaux’s Dec. 28 column on assault weapons overlooks a key point. (“Enforce gun laws on books already before passing more.”)

Many semi-automatic assault rifles on the market today can be easily converted to fully automatic operation with minor after-market modifications, and are often purchased with that purpose in mind.

A less obvious point is that, when it comes to taking life, semi-automatic weapons are as lethal as fully automatic weapons, which were banned in the 1930s because police were being gunned down by gangsters. True, a fully automatic weapon can fire far more rounds per second, but the bullet from a semi-automatic weapon is no less deadly.

All told, some 40 police officers across the country were killed by semi-automatic weapons over the last four years. FBI research shows these weapons account for nearly a quarter of police killed in the line of duty. It’s not surprising then that the International Association of Chiefs of Police have called for a ban. Yet, Washington has failed to ban assault weapons.

We have introduced a bill that will ban all future sales of semi-automatic assault weapons. A recent U.S. Supreme Court decision upholding individuals’ rights under the Second Amendment also expressly upheld the rights of states to make reasonable restrictions on dangerous firearms such as assault weapons. This legislation was not introduced to limit the rights of responsible gun owners and is an important step toward ensuring the safety of our police and preventing future large-scale tragedies.

I would like to get involved and help, but am not sure how. Could you post some info or ideas on ways everyone can help out? Thanks.
