at the risk of offending many with my first post, I have come here to ask people, is Oregon an anti gun state?
Honestly I hadn't thought so before, however I have recently discovered (while watching a gun rights case in my own state) that Oregon is listed as a co-petitioner in an Amicus Brief along with California, Maryland, and the Brady Campaign, standing in support of New York's latest gun ban.

a link to the place where I had found the brief:
NYSRPA v. Cuomo : Michel and Associates, P.C.

Oregon anti-gun

I think the governor and his administration are anti-gun. I also imagine that Portland and nearby areas are also BLUE (Similar to WA with greater Seattle being BLUE) which carries enough votes to make the state liberal. I know the eastern 2/3's of the state is RED and is pro-gun. I was in the John Day Fossil Bed region last year at the opening of deer season: I've never seen so many hunters/campers headed for the mountains and rural areas. http://pnwguns.com/images/smilies/hello.gif

Being from NY myself Iv found that majority of Oregon residents don't mind guns although alot of the Northern area is liberal. One thing I didn't like is how the rights of a concealed carrier really only give them the right to carry but at the same time leave the carrier a fear of penalization to defend themselves if a situation were to occur. If you end up having to actually defend your self prepare for years in court.

A states policy on guns is based on their political views. Oregon is a liberal state because of the number of folks in the western part of the state that moved here from some liberal **** hole like California. So, if you vote democrat, you are part of the problem. Remember all the guy's saying that Obama wouldn't try to take our guns??

Compared to WHERE?

In Oregon you can get a CHL without much trouble
In Oregon you can own NFA weapons
In Oregon you can hunt or shoot in most of the state (outside city limits)
In Oregon you can sell your neighbor a firearm without the state or a FFL being involved
In Oregon you can buy ammo over the counter with no signature
In Oregon you can buy any firearm (except NFA) without a waiting period
In most of Oregon you can open carry

It is much more difficult to explain and convoluted than just Pro-gun or Anti-gun as I am sure you are gathering.

I would say the general climate is indiference, with major metropolitan areas (maily the I-5 corridor - Portland, Salem, Eugene) having anti-leaning tendancies. But in general the laws are pretty welcoming, and most people are accepting of gun owners.

Technically the state has preemtion against local governments instituting more restrictive gun laws, but practically speaking that has not been applied and Portland and a few other cities have banned open carry, unless you have a permit to CC (which has never made sense to me?).

Oregon is a blue state mainly because of Multnomah, Marion and Lane county. The rest of the state is red. In most state the liberals live in the big cities like Portland, Salem and Eugene. Those are the big voting blocks. Democrats know they are democrat friendly. They win these three areas and it doesn't matter what the rest of the state wants.

Couldn't agree more. We moved to West Linn, a suburb of Portland, from Florida, where I always carried a gun, and although getting my Oregon Concealed Weapons permit was easy, because of what I know about the attitude in Portland toward guns, I have stopped carrying.

Even in a "good" shooting, you will likely find yourself before a grand jury, risk jail time and face years of litigation.

And, Oregon does not have a Castle Doctrine or Stand Your Ground Law.

OR doesn't have "stand your ground" litterally in writing, but there is also no duty to retreat, which by default leans towards stand your ground.
