So, the wife and I recently made the second 1.5 hour trip to Seattle to pick up her new 9mm pistol after waiting two weeks for them to get it in. After clearing the computerized background check (again) we are brought over to pay for the pistol. Moments before handing over our credit card, the clerk reveals that we can't leave with it unless she has a concealed carry permit. He wants to FAX her ID to our local PD and then he'll let us know in 3-5 business days if she can come back AGAIN to pick up the gun we will have paid for already. Since it's a 3-hour round trip every time, we were...how do I put this...resistant to his plan. I was sure to explain my position clearly. Anyway, reading up on gun laws (this was to be our first pistol purchase in WA) reveals nowhere that what this dipshit was telling us is right. It may be, but I can't find it anywhere. Does anyone know the story here? Is this some Outdoor Emporium special rule or is it grounded in reality? Thanks! |

Did you fill out paperwork for that particular pistol the day you paid for it? If so, you are on the regularly scheduled program. You might have also been flagged for a further delay, it's not uncommon with your first handgun purchase.

That's happened to me several times.. IF YOU FILLED OUT THE PAPERWORK, and your sure what you were filling out. Most likely what happened was: You filled out the paperwork to get approved for a FFL transfer. They forgot to send it it. You waited two weeks. When you got there they realized they made a mistake. They bullshitted you about needing a CPL to buy a fire arm (not at all true) They are likely filing your paperwork now. I would ask to talk to a store manager/owner. Be polite. Ask what dates are on the FFL transfer paperwork they submitted? They will likely own up. I've also had guys assume I have a CPL and not ask me to fill out FFL paperwork for the background check on the day I put cash down. I usually remind them I need to fill out the paperwork.. No problems. |

Having a CPL at the time of purchase of a handgun allows you to take same day delivery of it in the state of WA. If you don't have a CPL you're subject to the waiting period.

Seems kinda legit to me... If you order the pistol (i.e. dealer doesn't have in stock), how can you even submit the ATF background check if the dealer doesn't have the serial number? Probably cant... So now you're back in their store and they have the gun in hand, and they have to submit the papers for the background check and start the waiting period. Lesson learned? Get your CPL! :) |

PT, You should be shopping for your guns closer to home. There are several local gun shops much closer than Seattle. Port Angeles has Doc Neelys on w.8th St. ,EZ Pawn downtown on 1st St. and my favorite is, Freds Hobbies and Guns on Washington St. in Sequim. Good luck with your new gun , it's also good advise to get each of you a CCW permit, it dose allow a weapons pickup with out a waiting period. For $52.50 you no longer have a waiting period, you also may have a loaded ccw in your car with out penalty( legally). Welcome to PNW Guns .......................... Jack SORRY I missed the original post date. Last edited by Spooler41; 09-11-2015 at 03:51 PM. |
