Oregon wants to tax Oregon drivers by the miles they drive. Here is a summery of ORS 810

1. A 1.5 cent per mile driven gas tax.
2. The tax will be administrated by a for profit private corporation.
3. The tax will no longer be collected at the pump. Drivers will receive a monthly bill from the contractor.
4. If the bill is not paid on time a penalty will be assessed.
5. A GPS will be installed in every car to track miles driven and location.
6. Your personal information including GPS information will be available to law enforcement and government agencies.
7. The GPS will be leased from the contractor and the car owner billed monthly.
8. The car owner may opt to lease a high tech mileage monitor instead of a GPS.
9. If the car has a high tech monitor and the driver buys gas outside of Oregon they will pay the gas tax for both states. To get a refund the driver must apply to the contractor with documents. if the contractor agrees to the refund the driver will receive a tax credit on future gas purchases.
10. If the car owner drives less miles than is ordinary the contractor may allege the driver has tampered with the monitoring device which is a class A misdemeanor.
11. Any dispute will be investigated by the contractor.
12.No complaint against the contracor will be permitted to be filed in Oregon Circuit Court.

What this has to do with gun rights is that it's the same liberal gun grabbing Oregon legislators, Blumenauer, Prozanski, Ginny Burdick, Greg McPhearson, Merkley etc. that are responsible for pushing the miles driven tax bill through the Oregon legislature. Many non gun owners may be empathetic toward gun rights since it is not an issue to them. However, every driver in Oregon should be outraged not only that these Portland legislators want to tax us out of our vehicles but that they also want to track our movements. Take our firearms, take our ability to move freely, track our movements and make the information available to militarized law enforcement and you have a police state. This is what the Second Amendment was included in the constitution to guard against. It's all connected and this is no time to have tunnel vision. They are succeeding in taking our freedom from us.

There is an opportunity to inform voters who will be affected by this tax legislation and turn them against these legislators. The opportunity is not present to the same extent with anti gun legislation. These legislators fear only one thing, losing their jobs. They are no longer fearful of promoting anti gun legislation. No opportunity should be lost to discredit them on every front and the Internet is an important tool. That's why I put this post in a gun forum. Don't count on the news media to expose this bill for what it is.
