Oregon concealed carry on campuses.

I'm not sure how many of you are college students, or have children going go one of the public colleges in oregon...But being a pretty new gun owner, this pisses me off.

Oregon law allows licensed concealed carry on all public places, this includes school grounds and government buildings(with the exception of "court facilities").

However, a lot of those places (illegally)restrict concealed carry. I'm going to focus on college campuses for the purpose of this post.

Here's what portland state(my college) has to say about concealed carry:

On Friday, March 3, 2012, the Oregon Board of Higher Education approved a new policy on firearms for the Oregon University System, including Portland State University. The new policy took effect immediately. It forbids students, employees, individuals with a business interest with the campus (such as vendors and contractors), event attendees, those who rent or lease University property, and campus visitors from carrying a firearm on University owned or controlled property. Such property includes all PSU campus buildings, sports or performance venues, and workplaces. The prohibition is effective whether or not an individual holds a concealed handgun license. The policy provides several exceptions to the firearms prohibition, including for on-duty law enforcement officers and public safety personnel and military program participants.

Individuals found in violation of the policy may face disciplinary action through means specific to their relationship with the University. Students will be held accountable under the student conduct code, and employees under PSU's employment policies and collective bargaining agreements. Contractors, vendors, event attendees, those who rent or lease University property, and other visitors to PSU will be subject to exclusion from campus.

Now, this pisses me off for a few reasons....As many of you know, Portland state University is in the middle of the downtown area of Portland, not exactly the best neighborhood but it could be worse. This being portland, a lot of students take trimet to get too and from class every day, often times having to go through even worse parts of town.

and this is why, I, personally, opt not to take night classes...I don't trust waiting at pioneer square for the max at 10PM without my carry, I just don't, call me paranoid but better safe than sorry, right?

The kicker is, just recently, PSU opted to have armed police on campus for security reasons. So...the school knows there's enough of a security risk on campus to have armed police on school grounds, but they don't see fit to let students have concealed firearms to defend themselves, nor do they take into account people getting too and from campus?

This whole thing just....pisses me the fuck off and makes no sense to me.

What can we do to get our rights back in this case? Honestly, I'm a little frightened of speaking out in favor of concealed carry on campus after what happened to the political science major at kalamazoo college

it might be a little outdated, I'm not sure. But you can find a few other places that illegally restrict concealed carry here: PROHIBITED PLACES | Oregon Firearms Federation

It may be wise for Oregon collages to rethink their concealed weapons policy
in light of the Roseberg shooting. Just one armed student in that class room
may have saved many lives. No gun policies have a way of making target rich
areas for criminals wishing to do harm.
Just keep this next time you are on a college campus.

If you are good to carry on the street, you should be good to carry on campus
at any non private school. Whether you are student, staff or visitor.

Private schools can set their own policies, just as private businesses can.

It really shouldn't be any more complicated than that.

Just to keep this up to date, there are/were students on campus that do CC. There just wasn't one near enough when it hit the fan.

I have been on numerous campuses in Oregon. I always carry something except in the courthouses. When I know I am going to one of the campuses, I will take extra care to just keep it covered and out of sight. I never share with anyone that I carry. As the saying goes, modified for Oregon campuses, I'd rather be judged (after the fact) by the college administration than carried by 12.

PS: I'm also getting far to old and far to tired to fight this fight, instead choosing to just live my life as I need to. But the Portland Port Authority was school through the courts when they made it gun free. Police departments were school through the courts when they ticketed an OR driver for not immediately telling an officer when stopped that he was CC. When you get out of the big cities, things are much more friendly.

A group of students at PSU formed a "Students for Concealed Carry" club. It is officially recognized by the University. We are looking for more members!

Please send us an e-mail for more information

or visit our website

It is 100% legal for someone with a CHL to carry on public campuses per state law.

I highly recommend that people look into what Oregon Firearms Federation has done for the firearm community in regards to CC on campus. They made it possible. Please become a member if you're not already. And if you are, a little extra donation to them definitely helps in the long fight against people who hate the Second Amendment!

Just as any customer wants to work directly with the contractor, bypassing intermediaries, so it will be more appropriate for the student to order the authors to write his paper. I think that direct contact between the author of the work and the customer, allows to form the most optimal cost of work, and the student will not need to overpay a bunch of intermediaries. Guys, what is the process of making the order for writing an essay in this Essays.Assigncode service? I will order from the author?
