I'm 66 yrs old and am trying to trade some hunting rifles for 4 handguns at a dealer. Made the deal and then the check said I had a delay until November 11!!! I went to the state police office in Salem and they told me this has to do with a misdemeanor arrest back in 1969. I was a stupid 20-year-old that got in a fight with some other kids. Now they need proof that this misdemeanor had nothing to do with domestic violence. The Salem police have nothing on record that old. Now we are waiting because they have to send a written request to Marion County courts to try to find out what the deal was since they won't take my word what it was about. Marion County courts told me that records that old are all on microfilm and it takes weeks to look them up . Now we wish we had put my wife's name on the paperwork since the guns are going to be half hers.
Oregon sucks. This whole deal will probably be canceled since I go south for the winter in a couple weeks.

Going back thru Salem Wednesday on my way south. Gonna stop in at the State Police office and see if they can tell me anything. It's just soooo hard to believe something 46 years ago can cause all this problem.

Ouch

I was coming on here to see why I might have been delayed. Back in 1967 i got caught shoplifting with my girl friend. Actually she was the one doing the shop lifting, and did resist. Could this be the reason for my delay. damn that was almost 50 years ago, give me a break. PS I applied and got my Oregon and Utah concealed. strange.

You can own a firearm in Oregon if you have a misdemeanor. Even if you have a felony. It cant involve a firearm or switchblade, and has to be 15 years prior, but a misdemeanor doesnt prevent you from owning a firearm. I would just get the charge expunged regardless of what it is, just so they cant hassle you any more!
