So here in the next few months I will be getting my armed certification for work. Meaning I will be taking my XD every night for work. For the past few months it has been left at home at night to provide security and piece of mind for my fiance. (we dont live in the best part of town, don't believe me just ask lol) So knowing this I have been looking around for a piece for her. I plan on making her get her CHL before I get her a piece. Right now I'm torn between 3 guns and would like some input. I know a lot of the choice will be based on what fits her hand the best and is concealable for her. Right now I'm looking at

XD SC 9mm, XD compact 9, 38, 40
Rasoning, Have a xd love it. she can shoot it better then I can at the moment. but don't tell anyone that :hmmmm2:

Baretta 92FS
Reason, great gun! full metal frame. Cheaper ammo. Military proven.

OR and this is the one she wants, I'm sure its based on the looks....

Walther P22
Don't know much about this gun. Friend of mine has one and it seems like a solid gun. Small, very light weight, what I like to call the "assassin caliber" Classic hammer design with thumb safety. (I'm a sucker for a thumb safety from being around 1911's)
P22-PINK-BLUE.jpg

AND yes that is the real gun. Pink frame and all. they have one down at gun shafters

Any input would be great.

You might also consider the Ruger SR9c (SR9c Blackened Alloy) if you want to stay in a downsized package with a reasonable price tag. It has a 3.5 in barrel.

Kahr also makes a damn fine compact piece but the price tags are somewhat higher. Kahr Arms

well from expireience the p22 or the xc compact would be a good choice for a small person.

If she's familiar with the XD and shoots well with it, I would lean towards that as a choice. Perhaps you or someone else could put a pink coating on it?

The Walther PK380 just came out with a similar design as the P22, but I'm not sure if pink is available yet. I do like my P22, but there are many detractors of using a .22lr as a carry caliber.

I don't want to distract from the thread with another one of "those" kinds of conversations, but I agree with those that say carrying anything is better than carrying nothing.

I will have to look into what it takes to color the polymer. I was under the impression that it had to be done from the factory.

I think I saw someone here that did a custom color for a pair of guns. I'll see if I can dig it up.

Try a Beretta PX4 Storm Subcompact in 9mm. That is my everyday carry gun and I am a woman. It shoots great (IMO better than the full size, I have both). And an added bonus it has similar ergonomic styling like the Walther P22. Get the F model as it has the thumb safety and de-cocker in one. I bought mine for $529.99.

She looked around online and doesn't want a sub compact. I'm thinking the 92fs or the xd9 compact

XD 9mm compact? I'm pretty sure the only caliber you can get in the "compact" format, which is a shortened grip with no manual safety, is the .45 ACP. You can get the 9mm (or .40) in the XD Subcompact. I'm going to go on over to the Springfield website to check before I submit this post.......yeah, only .45 ACP, here's the link. You can get the 4" Service model in whatever flavor you like. However, with a full length grip, it's not exactly compact in the classic definition of the term.

Don't even think about the p22.... .22 is not a defensive caliber, EVEN in the head.

S&W for the win!

S&W 642 38 Spl. 5-Shot Airweight 1-7/8"/Hammerless.
When you need a lightweight carry revolver, you turn to Smith & Wesson's Small Frame Airweight Series.
They are the original aluminum, small frame revolvers chambered in .38 S&W Special +P.
Heres the deal, No slide to mess with. Won't jam, even if its inside her coat pocket or purse. No slide interferance with a coat liner or purse liner. Its not a physically big gun, but Its a man stopper.
