Hi pnwguns users, I would like to know what washington state laws are reguarding private sales of rifles and handguns. If I were to purchase a rifle or handgun what kind of registration would I need to do to make it all legal. If anyone could fill me in or direct me to a website with that info that would be great. Thank you all and happy shooting!

There is no weapons registration in Washington, aside from NFA firearms.

You pay the person the money agreed upon, they hand you the gun, you drive home with a smile on your face! If you have any question, get a written bill of sale with their & your identification info written on it.

I personally as the seller would want to see a concealed carry permit from you, (any state) and a drivers license. (or other picture ID, military ect) And I use my gut feeling, if you look funny, act funny or do not appear to be US citizen, (I dont care what paperwork you got) or you look like a gang member, then I tell you to hit the road.

I think most of us would do the same, or even have you fill out the DOL transfer as far as pistols go. I have used it a couple times, maybe I should use it more. That form is here > http://www.dol.wa.gov/forms/652004.pdf It's not mandatory but in some cases a good idea. I am half tempted to say if you dont do it, then the price just went up 100 bucks :)
other than that FATFUGG is right.

I have only sold one gun gun outside of family and I got a drivers lic number on the sales agreement. I didn't go off of looks though. I have no idea what a bad guy looks like. I knew the guy from work so I had an idea of his character although anybody can snap
under circumstances.

I hear ya pitkeeper1, Thanks. If I buy or sell I'll just use common sense and my best judgment. Also a sales reciept and DL number.

Wa is pretty easy on used gun sales.
I normally get a bill of sale and call it good.

I've bought quite a few used guns over the years, never had a problem. I kinda laugh at the concealed carry requirement when guys post that up. I don't have one, and don't really want one. I don't carry a weapon. Some people call me crazy.. but for me guns are a hobby like bikes or guitars. I don't train to stop conflict, so I leave the guns at home.

Lol. Hmmmm.... I'm sure I can also find pictures of crazy people that look nothing like that. But then go and blow up buildings and set churches on fire.

The way you conduct your sales is your right. I simply stated I don't go off of looks. I have tattoos. And scars. I guess I'm also an illegal.

No, thats not what I mean. I am simply stating that we ALL have that inner voice, and eyes, that tell us that something is not right with another person. Profiling? Sure. But you can also call it minimizing risk. And how somebody looks is just one tool in the bag. How a person acts is another and so on.
Tattoos and scars could also make you a former Marine. But that combined with a dew rag on your head, tough guy attitude, heavy spanish accent, or having 33 inch tires on your piece of **** chevy, would probably not get you a weapon from me.

I agree. There are key elements. It's a mix of them all. And one very important one is common sense. And I'm not oblivious to first impressions. It's also very important. In my only gun sale I was lucky enough to have an idea of his character. But if you advertise a sale online. You'll probably get all walks of life intreasted. So it will come down to your best judgement just take everything into account before you make any sale.

Side note. Big rims and old cars in my opinion is a HUGE fail lol.
