On March 29th, 1911, the Browning-designed, Colt-produced .45 Automatic pistol, was selected as the official sidearm of the Armed Forces of U.S.A., and named Model 1911. http://www.m1911.org/history.htm ![]() |

I bought one recently as well, in part to celebrate the 100th anniversary, and it's a .45 and I'm 45 this year so there's some kind of synergy there. ![]() It's my second 1911, the first being a Kimber Eclipse Custom, as seen in my profile pic. The new one is a Springfield Loaded MC Operator. This is not mine, but it looks like this: ![]() It never ceases to amaze me that something designed over 100 years ago is not only still around today and largely unchanged, but is still relevant and considered one of the premier fighting & competition handguns on the market, with many companies making complete guns, parts & gunsmithing specific to the 1911. How many other 100 year old things can you say that about?? |

Ever since I was a little kid I have wanted a 1911. My father has 3 of them, 1 of them being an original 1911, not the more common 1911A1. I bought mine about 4 months ago. It is a Springfield Armory 1911, it has had trigger work, hammer work, and a larger beaver tail added. I also added a set of Crimson Trace laser grips to it. This is now my standard concealed carry pistol and I will never get rid of it. Thank you John Browning and Sam Colt.

Who's Making a 100th Anniversary Edition? Does it come with a Special box? Grips? What will make any makers '100th Anniversary' 1911, 'Special'? |
