Gunsafe - <$500 suggestions?

My small gunsafe is getting PACKED. I need room for 3-4 rifles and about a dozen handguns. Anyone have any good suggestions on a mid sized safe around 5 bills?

Pink... thanks for the suggestion. Looks like this would fit the bill nicely. Great reviews online and it seems Lowes (of all places) sells this particular model. Do you have yours anchored down?

This Liberty is a nice safe. I do not recommend a 1 person carry up the stairs; I sweat a frekin bucket! I looked at the one in Costco but did not like the electronic lock. Something about a dial makes me feel better. Just need gun racks to increase handgun capacity then I'm all set... well that and maybe an AR and another shottie.

That 220 looks like a lot of safe for the cash!

24 gun slots does NOT suck.

Hire someone to do it with the money saved over the other ones.

Trying to be under $500 can be hard on a quality safe. But I have heard Costco carries several in the 500 - 1000 range. Also keep in mind that when they say 24 rifles, they are talking about 24 10/22's without scopes. When you start putting rifles in with scopes and/or handgrips, it will not hold the advertised amount.

Take the door off first. They usually just slip up off the pins when open.

I had to move one into a 3rd floor apartment once. And then move it again when I moved out.

A refrigerator dolly and a fifth of tequila for afterwards was all it took to get a friend to help.

For a non-gun-friendly store, I find it curious they sell anything like that.

it's not getting it up stairs that scares me. It's putting near 500 lbs, in such a small footprint, on my creaky wood floors! Anybody have any input/experience on putting a safe in the garage? Obviously the HD guns would be under a different system at close reach.

Once I moved out of my apartment my safe has always resided in a garage, bolted to the floor. If the garage isn't heated it is a good idea to use a dehumidifier. I have two 10 lb bags of dessicant that get "re-charged" twice a year by drying in oven. Some also use an electric rod type heater that keeps the interior of the safe above the dew point.

It would be a good idea, if you have the safe in the garage, to make sure the garage itself is secure. Don't need the neighbor's kid wandering in and bashing the dial off, thinking he can get in that way. Of course with a good safe all he's going to do is set the "relocks" and give you a large bill to have it drilled open by a Locksmith.

I figured I'd cut the back out of one of these and slid it over it

This is actually a great idea. Over the years I've seen gun safes hidden in closets, covered with blankets/tarps, disguised as refrigerators, and even hidden behind movable shelving (like the old secret agent spy room door).

For some reason, nothing shouts "Guns Here" more than a huge Gun Safe. Camouflage wouldn't hurt.

I got a 36 gun safe about 600 pounds and we lugged it up a flight and a half...

We used some heavy duty pump style suction cups like they use for sheet metal or large panes of glass and that gave us 4 handles to carry it by

Safe arrived yesterday and I must say I am impressed with the quality. Hopefully, I can bolt it to the floor tonight and then start filling it up!
