Ok, heres the deal. I go to school in Oregon and have lived here more than 6 months. I am over 21. I am pretty sure I fulfill all the conditions of residency in Oregon for purchasing firearms. But here is my problem. I have a CA drivers license and cannot get an Oregon one bc it would require me to register my vehicle in Oregon (which would screw up my parents insurance and cause me to not be considered a dependent). Is there any way I can get a photo ID that proves my residency but is not a drivers license? Thanks for the help.
Have you gone to a gun shop and asked "Can I buy a gun?"
It looks to me like in oregon
"Identification required of the purchaser shall include one piece of current identification bearing a photograph and the date of birth of the purchaser. If the photo identification presented by the purchaser does not include the current address of the purchaser, the purchaser shall present a second piece of current identification that contains the current address of the purchaser."
It doesn't say a second photo id. For voting a Utility bill with an address and your name is usually enough! You are going to certify on the Fed form how long you've lived at your current address. I'm just thinking you can do this...

It's kind of a matter of "You can't have it both ways". You are not a permanent resident of Oregon (or any other state for that matter) if you are a Student and have not established a permanent residency. That would mean things like changing your DL and vehicle registration to Oregon. You are considered a "Temporary Resident" as long as you are a student and still being carried as a "dependent" by your parents.
Are you paying "Non-Resident Tuition"? If so, that will be a dead giveaway.
Non-Residents in a State School can end up paying just under twice the tuition that residents do.
As for the parents loosing the "dependent" on their tax return, are they contributing over half your annual "living costs". If so, it doesn't matter what DL or Vehicle license you have. If you are paying Non Resident Tuition, it's probably costing you more to do that than it would to carry your own insurance.

oregon gun laws will not let you purchase a gun without an oregon id. you may be able to get just and oregon id card but idk for sure...maybe call and ask. even if you had a gun sent from an online retailer, they still need to follow oregon gun sale laws. your kinda sol unless you buy from a private party.
NOPE... I've asked a dealer that exact question last week...
California as we know, has some f'd up laws.... Oregon will not sell to a holder of CA ID.

Sorry James, federal law prohibits anyone without an FFL from purchasing a pistol from out of state (outside of their state of residency).
This one prohibits face to face transactions where both parties are not from the same state.
This one prohibits the sale of pistols from FFL dealers to residents of other states. Shotguns and rifles are ok to sell to residents of other states though.

Good info above. As you can see there are both federal and state laws that govern the sale. Hopefully one day it will change as I can run a background check on a washington license just as easy as an Oregon one. I hope that we at least get to the point of being able to do business in connecting states.
Pretty rediculous, if you ask me. States act like they are sovereign countries. If you're a Resident/Citizen of the USA, no felonies, etc. etc. you should have the right to buy and own weapons and the right to carry. Too bad it would take an "Act of Congress" to change this, but they'd screw that up as bad, if not worse than they did the debt ceiling.

The only reason the "Fed's" are involved in Gun Regulation is that they've perverted the Commerce Clause enough to stick their noses in.:headscratch: Firearm regulation IS the realm of the States if you believe in the 10th Amendment.
If you believe in the 2nd amendment then NOBODY should be involved in regulating firearms.:headscratch: Hmmmm. Wonder how that would work?
