Purchasing a Handgun & Safety Course

If you have a Washington CPL, how does the bg check work when buying a pistol? Also, is there a recommended firearm safety course in the South Sound Area? I could probably use a refresher and my girlfriend is planning on buying a gun. Which brings up another question, without a CPL, how does the bg check work then?

Thanks!

If you don't have a CPL, you pick a gun, pay for it, fill out paperwork, wait a week & pick it up. As long as they don't find anything they don't like.

If you have a CPL, you pick a gun, pay for it, fill out paperwork, they make a phone call & you take it home. As long as the guy on the other end of the phone doesn't find anything he doesn't like.

Firearms Academy of Seattle Safety Seminar

Excellent Class, only $50 and you can bring your own gun or use one of their .22s. Half day in the class room, half day on the range for live fire. They also go over the gun laws and use of deadly force laws. You get a lot of stuff to take home including a book, Effective Defense by Gila Hayes.

I've had some consideration into moving back to western Washington (I'm originally from Tacoma). If I do I will definitely check out some of the ccw classes provided up there. I've had my Oregon ccw for over a year and unfortunately they don't recognize each other's permits. Can we get some reciprocity up here please??? lol

Or thinks you are someone else.

I know that many don't want to give out their SSN but when filling out the Form 4473, it sometimes pays to give it. Makes sure that you aren't mistaken for the "Joe Schmoe" that's wanted for mass rape and murder in some other State.

There needs to be blanket reciprocity across the Nation, PERIOD! I thought we were the UNITED States of America but this really divides us. If one state recognizes your right and ability to carry, EVERY state should follow suit and not think everyone carrying is a criminal. California needs to stop being so paranoid too, either that or cesede!(sp)

I just completed the NRA Basic Pistol Course at the Tacoma Rifle & Revolver Club (TRRC). A great learning experience. I would like to thank Duane, Ted, Mark, and all of the other very knowledgeable volunteer instructors for providing a great opportunity to learn more about the proper use of a pistol in a safe and sane manner. I would highly recommend the course at TRRC.

I wish that I lived closer to TRRC, I would join the club. A good group of people to be associated with, and a nice facility.
