In a quandry...

I want a new pistol dammit... and I'm tired of waiting for Kimber to ship a Solo.
I want a small, easily concealable piece. Light weight and decent firepower are very important. Minimum cal is 9MM.

Some of my choices are;
*Smith M&P 360 or 360PD. .357 J frame snubby. Stoned cold reliable. Light weight, .38 or .357. High on my list...
*Kahr PM9, PM40, or maybe a PM45.. but I've heard tons of stories about "break in".. like it takes a ton of rounds to get it to function properly?
*Kel Tec PF-9 or P-11.. Don't know anything to speak of about Kel Tec quality.. they are certainly reasonably priced..

I see Stumprat likes his new Kahr.. anyone else have experience with the Kahr or the Kel Tec?

Kel-Tec pistol quality is crap.

Why not get a Para Slim Hawg to play with until your Solo appears?

Couple reasons;

It's physically larger than I want.
It's damn near as heavy as my Sig.... ok, not quite. it's 24 oz, my P229 is 32..
It's a thousand bucks retail.
However, it is a .45, which is cool..

But... I'm looking for a small, light weight carry piece.

"Larger" is a relative term.

It is kinda spendy.

For a carry piece, I love me an XD subcompact with a Pearce grip extension!

Any thoughts towards a Walther PPS? Sorry, I'm on a Walther kick right now.

How about a Ruger LC9? I've got at least 400 rounds through mine now without a hiccup. Just added a Crimson Trace Laserguard to complete the package. It's light, slim, easily concealed and 7 of 9mm, all for $350!

I know you are concerned with both size and weight. But small frame revolvers aren't that much fun for target shooting. And some places they aren't even allowed.

Any chance of stepping up into a K frame or equivalent? A 686 with a 2.5 inch barrel and the right grip is going to very concealable, and at the end of the day, you have a great shooting gun at the range. Sure it costs a fortune, but it's a k frame Smith! Hell of a gun!

M&P9C buddy... I had the same notion earlier this year. Dead accurate and comfortable to boot. A little heavier than the Khar but very manageable. Almost got the Ruger LCR but wanted more capacity. Try one out.

Actually it's an "L" frame. But who's counting?

I had one of the first PM40s that came out. It was a great shooter as far as being accurate. It had some issues however. The magazine catch broke after about 50 rounds, and the recoil spring wore out after about 200 rounds. They may have gotten better since then, but I'm kind of soured to the PM40. I think the caliber might just be a little too much for such a small gun but that's my opinion.

My bad. They don't feel that big in hand. Still the way I would go. Actually not though. I'd go with a .45 acp like the JM...

I used to have the Kel-Tec PF9. Mine functioned flawlessly. And concealed very well. It just didn't feel good in my hand. The recoil was fine. Just too thin of a grip for me.

The Kahr CM9 is not even in the same class as the Kel-Tec in my opinion. Weighty for it's size. Makes for minimal recoil, and quick follow up shots. Comfortable grip. And conceals equally as well as the Kel-Tec.

Alot tighter gun than the Kel-Tec right out of the box. It impressed me right away. As far as the break in. The Kahr loosened right up after the first 50 rounds. To date I have just over 1200 rounds through the Kahr. No malfunctions of any kind. Picked it up for warm weather carry. But it has impressed me enough to take the place of my compact .40 for edc.

Well.... I bought a Diamondback DB9 today. Went out and shot a half a box of ammo thru it... and I like it so far! Shoots well, incredibly small, pretty damn light.. we'll see!

I looked at the DB9 before buying the Kahr. Keep us posted, and do a review.

Hey MJN have you looked at the sub compact Sig P250? I have a buddy that has one and he loves it, he said it's really easy to conceal and it comes in 9mm or .40 here's a Link I was looking at getting one, they have great reviews. One of my best friends is a Sheriff's deputy for King County and he carries a little Kahr .40 damn tiny gun if you wore it IWB no one would ever know you had it.

I have a Kahr K9, CW9 and PM 9. Excellent weapons IMO. If I could just have one; I'd go for the least expensive of the three; my CW9 is an awesome all around piece. Yes; Kahr says to run 200 rounds through to break it in...I do not see that as a problem; I do that regardless of brand; Glock, Sig, Kahr...whatever; I would not carry a semi-auto until I had 200 flawless rounds through it anyway. My two cents.

Had a PPS in 9mm and it stung like an SOB when you shoot it. Bought a Kimber Ultra Raptor in 45ACP to replace it. Not much difference in size but the loaded Raptor is heavier but what would you expect from 7-rounds of 45ACP compared to 7-rounds of 9mm.

Don't get too wrapped up on frame size. The right holster makes all the difference. Local guy makes something similar to the crossbread series and I can wear a G23 or even a full size 1911 in shorts and a T-shirt and no one ever sees it. With the Glock, you sometimes forget it's even there.

When you go for a small gun, you get a gun that's usually harder to shoot, harder to draw correctly and usually less reliable. (revolver's being the exception but then you trade capacity)
