Do you feel that Automatic Weapons should be distributed by manufactures for civilian purchase again?

don't long guns have background checks like pistols, but pistols have a waiting period for "cooling off"?

they should be sold with a background check for felonies and such like they do now for long guns, and should do for hand guns.

*edit: a "cooling off" period doesn't make the murder any less "premeditated"

Actually the Long Gun check is not as in depth as the Handgun Check. Rifles are a FFL Transfer Check. Basically checking to see if your name pops up, you don't even have to give your Social to do it.

Handgun is an actual background check now, which is why you still need to fill out 2 forms, the Background Check and the FFL Transfer.

If you have a CPL, you don't have to fill out the green form to submit for a background check.

Rifles = NICS

Handguns = State Background Check

Edit: Just realized you may have been saying that the waiting/check is bullshit, and not the information I gave above)

how is it not bullshit?

I'm all for keeping guns out of the hands of felons and all that, but I thought that's what that NCIS check did?

waiting periods are bullshit.
different laws for different guns are bullshit.

*koor starts a job-hunt in idaho...* lol

I'm all for making the restrictions for FA weapons be as strong as a combination of both rules along with a fingerprint check (or maybe CPL requirement?) so that they're available to someone who wants to wait through the process to acquire one.

Why? Nobody needs instant access to an automatic weapon.... but everyone who has the legal right to own a firearm should equally have the right to own one with a different trigger group.

IMHO an automatic isn't any worse than a semi-automatic since people in general don't have a clue how to properly fire the weapon in the first place and an automatic is only harder to be accurate with.

by that way of thinking nobody needs instant access to any weapon and a waiting period could/should apply to every weapon type, including knives.

:rolleyes: Let me put this differently.

I would be OKAY with the waiting period on these because that would:

1) Not be unreasonable
2) Be a vast improvement over the current situation
3) Be more of a 'compromise' for the anti-firearm people than having no restrictions.
4) I (and others might feel the same) don't want to wait even 2 days to pick up a 10/22 considering a .22LR semi is hardly a powerful weapon but I would happily wait 30 days to pick up a M249 or MP5N or MP5SD.

lots of people have died at the hands of a .22lr.

I understand what you are saying. that you'd like a compromise, as something that you'd be more likely to get (legally) than just being allowed to buy automatic weapons or pistols just as you can a standard long gun currently.

however, what I'm saying is that: I disagree with any waiting on any type of firearm, and that if I'm going to do some illegal activity with my weapons, I'm probably not buying the guns legally anyway ;)

yes, what you are proposing is reasonable, but I don't agree with it, and I've stated my reasons :D

I don't disagree. I'd love to see the restrictions removed. I'd be happy with what I said above, but none at all would be tits. :)

I believe you still do have to fill out the green form with a CPL, but they still give you the gun on the spot. At least I had to fill it out last Friday.

Being able to own a squirt gun would be the ****! As others have said if I have gone through a background check, paid a tax stamp or whatever else was required, I see no reason why civilians couldn't own them.

Both handguns and long guns require the NICS background check - there's just a waiting period if you don't have a concealed weapons(pistol/carry) license/permit that doesn't meet the same requirements as the NICS - such as the WA CCP. No CCP = 7 day wait.

I'm ok with most of the NFA and Title II status of machine guns. They're so incredibly worthless anyway, I'd never buy one. Ok maybe one just for fun. If you can afford to shoot one, then a $200 tax stamp is nothing. I do wish they would repeal the law that prevents new ones to be made, whatever that one is.

Suppressors though I believe should NOT be Title II.
