what do you use to store your side arm when you're at home

i'm in the market for purchasing my first handgun and i overheard someone talking about a small safe designed for handguns that is quick to open by recognition of your fingerprint
something like a box with a sliding lid that when you touch the finger pad it unlocks and you can access your weapon very very quickly

anyone know of anything like that.....or was the guy talking out his arse?

my thought is....and feel free to correct me, but i dont want to be fumbling around a lock/key or combination if an "emergency" was to arise but will if thats what is needed to make it safe at home
but
with having a young adult in the house......i do not want it to be easily accessible for anyone (other than myself and the lady) already in or entering the home

whatever you end up doing...make sure your daughter knows what to do if she finds it open...
and make sure she knows how to use it (not for defense, but how to operate it safely and properly)

most def jeff......and as sad as it might sound......i think she has fired more rounds off in the last 10yrs than i have with her going hunting with her poppa all the time......her education on weapons and firearms is constant as my "father in law" is an avid gun enthusiast and hunter.....i cant begin to list the amount of firearms he has

as he is one i go to for topics such as this and i currently am picking his brain as often as he allows me too......i am seeking some advice from some locals that i may or may not know on these topics

prolly going to get back into hunting next year......so my "hunt" for knowledge will be large

I have a GunVault. It isn't what I would call a real safe, but it will slow someone down that doesn't know the combination or have the key & it will keep curious hands off of your gun. It will hold two guns as big as a Desert Eagle.

this is more of what i am kinda looking for......do you have a link or model# i can go look at for more info?

this device will be more for storage when i am home so that it is out of site out of mind......the weapon will either be with me or be put into a more traditional "safe" when i will not be around

is the gun vault finger print or is it a combination?

They have one version that has a key & combination & one that has key, fingerprint & combination.

I got mine prior to the fingerprint option being available so I can't give any input on it.

I've got something similar, but it's not fingerprint id. It's combination or a key. Works great.. I'd definitely reccomend bolting the safe to a hard surface rather than putting it into another safe. If you need it in a hurry.... Also, I don't know if it would be a good idea to teach a kid how to open it (don't know how old yours is). I got mine at Cabelas I believe, and cost about $50. It's a great investment.

never said anything about teaching my daughter (12yrs old) how to access the safe or lock box

the "quick access" box will not be in a safe but will be properly fixed to a structered member of the dwelling
when i am in the house......the fire arm will be either in the "quick access" box or on my person

if the weapon is left at home while i am not there.....it will be in a more traditional safe

They make quick access lock boxes. All you do is punch in your code and pop it opens. You can store it loaded.

My dad just kept his on the bedstand, but I was taught to shoot from age 3 and knew better than to ever screw with it.
