If you don't have a shop that you are a regular at, shop around before doing the transfer. My local shop only charges $20.00 to do transfers for anyone. The process is pretty painless. You get a signed copy of your dealers FFL & send it to the FFL selling the gun. They ship it to your FFL. You fill out paperwork & take the gun home!:top:

Ya I've called around and most of the places around here charge $40-50 for a transfer. I've been thinking though and I think i'm going to buy a pistol for the winter so I can shoot at the range since no one seems to allow rifles without a membership and buy a rifle once I can hit up my mountain spots.

$40-$50 is pretty steep! I don't believe there is actually a BATF charge for transfers so you're only really paying for the guy to make sure you filled out your form correctly and call it in.

Yea I remember when they used to be $20 bucks, and like you said it's just for filling out the forms seems a bit ridicilious.
