Just wondering if anyone had one? I would like to get one and there are so many companies that make the basic vest itself, I'm not sure which to go with, they range from 30 dollars to 150. It would be great for trekking through the woods and what not. Just wondering if anyone has any advice on which vest would be the best to get, and accessories and what not.

well, being that I had to wear one in the Marine Corps I dont know if I would wear one unless I am Bugging out. Two reasons, one without having the "flak" jacket under it it would fit weird, really loose at the bottom and will slide off the shoulders. Two i dont have the need to carry 20 m4 mags, i understand they can be adapted for other use, but that my two cents

I have the 5.11 vest. Lots of acreage for pouches but not fully armor compatible. There are some good plate carriers for $150 but for us civilian guys, we may be better off with just an H-Rig, belt system or chest rig if you don't need plates. As a woods setup it would be too hot for me, but I run hot. If I had it to do over I would have checked out a belt or chest rig. I have found it better to have my shoulders clear of straps. I am entertaining a belt with a sling pack so my strong shoulder is clear but I have enough real estate for everything I may need in a hunting/shooting scenario. Al |

Hey Fish, can you link the Chest Vest you were talking about? Here is the Molle Vest I was looking at getting Amazon.com: 5.11 LBE Vest: Sports & Outdoors I would like to Add 3 Double mag pouches so I can hold 6 AR mags, a Pistol Holster, 4 pistol mags, pouches for Radio's, Lights, Knives, basic med kit.. I'm trying to find more reviews for that particular vest but aside from the ones on Amazon I can't find any, though the reviews are very good from there.

I ended up getting this one. MOLLE-118 - ModGear Quick Release Plate Carrier Black Fully Adjustable One Size Fits Most Does not Include Armored Plates I'm still debating on what accessories to get. I got a Triple Mag pouch that holds 9 AR mags. as well as a Triple Pistol Magazine pouch. I'm kinda debating on a pistol holster. Also a butt pack Knife/Light holder as well as a radio pouch. I want to get the vest before I decide what else to get to I can get an idea of how much space it will take up. |

Awesome. Would not have been my choice per the heat issues I stated previously but you will be able to run full plates and have enough room for everything you may want to carry. Cheers, Al |

Well I bought a 9 magazine Pouch, 3 pistol Magazine pouch. I would like to get a Butt Pack to store medical stuff. I would still like to get a couple of holders for Radio's, Maps, and knives.. I would also really like to get a really sturdy bugout bag, but I'm not too sure what to look for in terms of a pack..

Not trying to sound like a dick.... but why would anyone need/want to carry all that ammo in a hunting situation? Just curious as I see a ton of civilians in the woods/range who do it. As for a vest...I agree with the chest rig. I use one for work with or without my lvl IV IOTV and carries everything I need. IFAK on the side, radio on other side, dump pouch, and a ton more mag pouches than you want to carry. 5.11 and BlackHawk both make a nice one. Last edited by kidkaz; 02-21-2012 at 09:08 AM. |

I have a couple things from these guys. Its made to order just so you know, but I have gotten most stuff within a couple of weeks. Tactical Gear By BDS, When Your Life Depends On Your Gear One place I do not recommend is 762tactical. That guy took over 2 months and I still never got my chest rig that I ordered. Thank god for pay pal! cheers! |
