I'm looking for a holster for the Ultra carry ll CDP that I'll be picking up soon.

I don't think an inside the waistband style would be comfy for me as I'm kinda chunky..:s:

Looking at some of the paddle style holsters out there.. Galco has two paddles for the 3" 1911, the Speed paddle and the Yaqui paddle. I like the idea of not having to mess with my belt to get the holster off..

Any experience with these? Any other good ideas?

My carry gun is a ruger p97. Its big an heavy. lol.. I personally didn't like IWB holsters. Caused chafing, especially if i was moving around a lot. I use an OWB Galco now, and I like it. Pros outweigh the cons..

I carry a Ruger P89 9mm IWB. At first, I used my Galco leather OWB Cop holster but it prints unless I wear a jacket. So I carry IWB most of the time. I know the 1911 is a little bit longer in the snout than a P89, but they're both cannons, very similar in size. If you wear an undershirt between your skin and the pistol, then a decent sized overshirt, you may be alright. It takes a little getting used to but I'm a little large in the middle too and it's still pretty comfortable unless I have to sit a while.

Does that help a little?

Biggest downside for me to OWB, is that the but of the gun tends to lean outboard a bit. Not a huge deal for me. My shoulders are wider than my waist, so as long as i'm reasonably careful with how I dress/move, I don't print too badly. To be totally honest though, i'm not horribly concerned if it does print...

I'm pretty careful about how I move when I'm armed as well, but this holster will be my first for this gun, and it'll be used when I'm at our property or out camping... so I'm not all that concerned wether it's visible or not.

qballrail, I think I'll find someone locally that has a IWB holster that I can try.. if I can find one that is comfy, I'll probably snag one. I just want a basic carry for now...but one that will conceal with a sweatshirt or somethin if needed.

I'm a bigger guy and iwb my commander size 1911 every day. As long as you get a good thick leather belt and a good leather holster you won't even notice it. I would recommend Crossbreed Holsters personally. They make a great holster and the turnaround is pretty quick.

I know you said you wanted OWB but I have to tell you guys, these locally made IWB holsters are the most comfortable I've ever used. Even if you hang over you belt a little bit. I've litterally forgotten I was wearing my G23 with one of these.

I have them for my small glock and my Sig 220 SAO (about the size of a 1911 Commander) both fit awesome and don't print, I wear them with shorts and a t-shirt all summer long.

I might have to give one of those a try... the price is certainly reasonable!

Good to hear. I think it'll work well. I do want to try an IWB holster one of these days though too..

I have a Galco Combat Master coming, should conceal my 1911 better than what I have been using?
