I don't know any official spots down there, but I'd love to see some pics of your new shooter!
Well crap! My new boom-stick has to go back to the manufacturer. Shot it once and it's not semi-auto at all! We figure it's a gas leak at the end of the gas tube. Nice going, Sig Sauer. I have to pull the bolt back for each round and that's not semi-auto, right? $1000 is not that easy to come by now I have neither one. We just sent it back and could take up to 3 weeks or more..
I take it you tried to adjust the gas valve? My M&P15 PSX, does exactly what your talking about if the adjustable gas valve isn't wide open, I see your Sig has a two position adjustable gas valve. I take it you had the valve set to WFO??
Okay, I have my boom-stick back :mfclap: and thinking about sights. What's a decent priced solution for the 556? Should I go laser or just optical? Can I get something decent for less than $100?
Does it have anything on it now? Like flip-up irons etc or just a bare rail?
What do you want use it for? Short range or long range? Or both? Is it for defense, target shooting, plinking or all of the above? Optics/sights can be a tough choice and/or filled with compromise.... I've changed my setup twice now on one AR.
For close range defensive use and/or plinking, red dots or holographic sights work really well. Aimpoint (red dot) and Eotech (holo) are some of the best, but they ain't cheap. You gets what you pays for.
For longer range and target shooting you're pretty much looking at a scope. There are some decent ones in the $100-200 range, and they just go up from there. Basically the longer range you're trying to use the scope, the more the quality of the glass etc will come into play.
Then there are low power scopes that kinda split the difference. 1-4X scopes with a wide variety of reticles from traditional duplex crosshairs, to illuminated dots/chevrons/etc. At 1X they work well at short range, though not as fast as a red dot or holo. Spin them to 4X and you can see pretty well out to 300-400 yards.
And last but not least there's combos (this starts getting expensive though) like a 3X or 4X flip-out magnifier for a red dot/holo sight. Or mini red dots that mount in conjunction with a higher powered scope, or 45 degree angle mounted irons or mini red, where you rotate the rifle slightly to use the irons/red dot.
It's just the bare rail. And for now, it's just use it for target practice. However, it's nice peace of mind for if/when **** finally hits the fan in this country, don't you think? If we have to live off the land again, .223's are easier to clean out of game than pellets from a shot gun. For now, it's target practice on the range. Man, it's a rush to fire though. Nice and accurate.
Thanks, Pete, you've given me something to think about here. It might be a while yet before I can make any kind of investment since it's already set me back over a Grand. But that just means I have more time to mull things over.
