Gun Manufacturer Service, Specifically Sig

Is it typical of gun manufacturers to treat customers like crap? Sig Sauer is really making me regret my purchase. It seems they could not care less that I plunk down over a Grand for one of their rifles and it was defective out of the box. Took these guys 3 days to finally pick it up and when I talked to them on the phone they had no interest in following up with me. What REALLY makes me concerned is how "busy" they claim to be with repairs to take 3-4 weeks or more. Yeah, this really bites and I'm beginning to not only regret my purchase but wonder if they're going to make it right. They act like they're doing me a favor and I should be kissing their butts for taking it back to fix paying no mind to how much I spent or that I bought one of their guns in the first place. No apologies, nothing indicating they will make any real effort to get it back to me as soon as possible. I couldn't believe the rep actually balked at following up with me. Has customer service truly vanished?

What do you guys think?

From what I hear.... Its only Sig Sauer that treats their customers like crap, don't judge other manufactures from your experience with one

That's why I asked rather than making a sweeping statment. So it is common for Sig Sauer to do this then?

That was entertaining but concerning at the same time. I hope they don't pull that out of warranty crap...don't really need that stress its bad enough it was so filthy when I took it out the first time then no auto recharge. But its kinda reassuring I'm not alone.

Thanks for the vid, it made me laugh.

I've actually had excellent service from SIG in the past. They are a large company with an assload of guns out there. They also offer reconditioning services for guys with older sig pistols. Just becuase they tell you it will be a couple of weeks to get your new rifle back doesn't mean they have stacks of fucked up guns waiting for repair. They may have a few but thats not all their service department handles.

You are right to be pissed your new rifle isn't 100% out of the box. I would be too. unfortunately you're in line with everyone else who's getting new sights or a mainspring or having custom work done to their triggers.

Warranty repairs (especially those within 30 days) should be given priority. As far as the timing goes, that's what the store said was typical turn-around. Probably closer to a month, it seems. Well, this is an expensive lesson learned, follow my gut. I'm a Ruger & S&W man and should have bought the Ruger instead. It still really concerns me that this was not caught in QC. Semi-autos shouldn't require charging every round, so I'm more than just a little concerned about quality now

My arsenal is pretty small, 2 sidearms 2 rifles including the sig. The other boom-stick is a .22. Fun to shoot but not terribly effective as a weapon unless I want to use it as a bat! LOL! Its single round bolt action, which is one reason why I decided to buy the sig.

Yeah, I know I'm ranting now, but this is the only place I really can. LOL!

If I buy a weapon for a grand, it damn well better work with proper ammo every time!!!!!! I hope they make it worth your while, but this will leave a black mark for Sig's reputation if they dont go above and beyond. Or maybe they can care less. Keep the updates coming.

NATO rounds.. in a green can. Actually, the salesman recommended the loads I used. They're the right ones. We initially thought it might have been that, possibly weak powder or not packed right or something. But that turned out to be a dead end. They sell those with the Sig 556. (SportCo, by the way..

What, a horse? j/k. Seriously... I'm finding that out now. One things for sure, I am never going to buy Sig again. Unless they really do right by me and go beyond fixing it. I should have opted for the Ruger or an AK. Unfortunately, the money has been spent, and if I understand ATF regulations in this matter, they cannot exchange nor refund. So they have my money, soon my rifle, which they claim has not arrived yet when I called this morning, which very well could be since the retailer didn't even call them til Tuesday.

Talk about yanking the rug out from under ya...

Update

Sig had not received the rifle as of today. Retailer called their distributor on Friday (when I took it in) and did not receive a return call until TUESDAY, then provided the Call Tag on Wednesday when it FINALLY went out. (Sig claims call was not received til Wednesday, by the way --- who you going to believe?) Since it's going Ground, that will put it on their receiving dock sometime Wednesday then not on a gunsmith's bench til the soonest Friday, most likely. Give em a week, if they don't take their sweet-assed time about it, maybe out by May 7? Possibly back by the 11th or that following Monday? Sheesh.

Oh, Sig Customer Service had the gall to ask me if I cleaned the weapon before shooting the first time. An inexperienced gun owner is most likely not going to have such a piece. If they do, wouldn't one think they'd have proper guidance? At any rate, I thought that was out of line. So, to add insult to injury... Hopefully, I'll have it back in my hands, fixed RIGHT within a month.

I'm pleased to report that Sig sent back my rifle and although I haven't had the opportunity to fire her yet, my gut tells me she'll work just fine.

I'd like to share. You mentioned your a S & W guy. I had a great experience with their service.

I bought a nice used Mdl 66 pinned & recessed. After a few thousand rounds it cracked the forcing cone.(timing was off) Needed a new barrel and other work to fix the problem.

I called S & W, they sent me a call tag that day. Obviously it was not their problem. I should have repaired the gun before this happened.

They repaired my gun with a new barrel, hammer, hand, cylinder stop, all internal springs and new screws. all the gunsmithing to fit the oversized parts to retime the stop.. $234.00 not bad when you consider a barrel on line is $190.

They sent me a rebuilt gun that will live on for another 40 years.. I will recommend S & W to anyone.
