Freedom Munitions

I'd never heard of Freedom Munitions before but after reading their website and talking to a couple of people that work there I felt like placing an order. I've got a 1,000 rounds of new .45-Auto on the way. It shipped today (Monday) and is scheduled to arrive Wednesday.

I figured I'd start off with their new stuff and then maybe check out their reloads if the new stuff shoots well -- and maybe even their "Blaster: Training Ammo", but there's not a significant price difference in my mind.

The price seems alright to me when I consider the shipping ($18), no tax and how close they are (Idaho). I'll let you know how it goes once it gets here and I get a chance to shoot some...

I would love to hear how this ammo works. I shoot 45auto as well and they have every other caliber I shoot as well. The prices seem pretty good as well.

It shipped Monday and has an arrival date of Wednesday. Not too shabby for $18 shipping. When it arrives I'll post up what it looks like. And we'll be going to the range on Thursday so will fire it. We'll use a Glock 21, Glock 36 & at least one 1911.

Maybe I should load up the Tommy gun, too? ;)

All guns are squeaky clean as of right now, so when we clean them at the end of the day I'll see what they're like and post up about that as well.

Arrived yesterday as promised by UPS. To me, that's pretty fast shipping. I didn't expect them to be individually boxed -- not sure what I was expecting though.

The casings are labelled "Blazer". Blazer is an ammo line produced by CCI/Speer (owned by ATK). I only bring this up as someone had assumed they were only selling reloads -- which obviously isn't the case. That being said, they do offer reloads, which I may try. And they have yet another line of reloads that have ugly/stained cases (and are packaged loose).

They looked fine to me. I've seen shinier cases from the factory and I've seen duller ones. Nothing unusual to me about them though. Regular, FMJ.

Took 4 boxes to the range and shot them all. Started off with a Thompson (don't ask why) and noticed rounds weren't feeding well. Upon inspection I'm pretty sure it's because the poor thing was filthy. Stopped after 30 rounds because it wasn't fun (the springs on those things are stout!)

Through the Glock 21, Glock 36 & Kimber 1911 they shot great. I had one double round jam in the 36 but once cleared had no other issues the rest of the shoot.

From my seat of the pants dynometer I'd say these felt a bit snappier than a standard PMC or Winchester white box round. I wouldn't say they were +P or anything like that, but they felt more crisp than those. But maybe it was just because I hadn't shot for a couple days or something. Who knows.

I didn't notice any smokiness or excessive dirt from them. In fact, when cleaning the 36 (my son cleaned the 21) it appeared cleaner than what I'd normally see.

All in all I'd say these were an excellent purchase and I'm intending to buy more. I'm also probably going to try some 9mm from them as well...

Yeah, and I'm going to get some of their bulk Blaster stuff next. If I'm going to do reloads, no need to worry about them being "pretty" and in a box, right?

I haven't bought any of their 9mm, but this sounds great!

I ordered some of their Blaster .45 on Friday. It got here on Tuesday -- so again, really fast.

Here's how their bulk packaging looks. I expected bags of 250 or something like that, so was surprised to see 50 round boxes.

Going to the range here in a little bit and will report back on how they fed & shot. I'll be sure to use at least one Glock and the Kimber 1911. Might try a Beretta Cx4 Storm just to see how they work in a different platform from the Tommy. ;)

Okay, so it was pistol-only day. Shot a lot (for me). My boy and I shot 300 rounds through the following guns:
  • Glock 21
  • Kimber Ultra Carry
  • Springfield XDM 45
These rounds did just fine. Nothing to note, really. They all fired, none jammed. There was no excessive amount of residue (nothing out of the ordinary but I imagine they're slightly dirtier than a premium self-defense round).

I'd recommend them and will most likely order these again. I don't see any reason not to...

Oh cool! I'm interested in reading your review of how they shot -- to see how it compares to my impression...

Today was all about getting a Mossberg 12G Semi Auto to cycle w/low brass. I'll get back with a review as soon as I can.

Just a heads up that Freedom Munitions sent me an email (saw it and used it yesterday) for 5% off all orders. The coupon code is "july4th5off". The offer expires 11 July.

Not a huge discount, but in the world of ammo, it seems significant to me. Basically covered my shipping. :)
