I just made a discovery today that has me concerned...or should I be? My girl carries unchambered. The safety is on, but no round has been chambered. I have always carried chambered because I've always felt that extra second (or less) can mean the difference between life and death. We've briefly discussed it and she says she is not really comfortable with a round chambered, even though she understands the safety, etc. etc. Sooo... what should I do? Is this something I should push hard with her or let her do as she pleases? Her response is "at least I'm carrying..." I've heard that having "air" chambered is as bad or worse than not carrying at all. Then again, could I be overreacting? She's had guns all her life but only recently started carrying, at my insistence. Suggestions?

That's really cool. Thanks! I'll have her watch it.

wheel gun? she can let the hammer rest on an empty chamber but it is still point and click. |

If it's resting on an empty chamber, the tendency to jerk b/c of the longer trigger pull is greater. I dunno, maybe I'm just paranoid... LOL! You're right, of course but there is the longer pull that worries me. No, not a wheel gun, it's a .380 semi-auto. |

sorry I wasn't clear, maybe she would be happy with a wheel gun where she could let it rest on an empty chamber, maybe something DA only? my favorite pocket gun. Very light and takes +P. No hammer to hang up or slide to move if fired from inside a pocket. Last edited by Dragon Rider; 08-19-2012 at 03:56 PM. |

Heck, I'd take that for myself! Been thinking of a revolver being my next purchase... may put off the LC9. ;)

maybe let her decide to carry for herself? sounds to me like she doesn't want to. what are you going to do if she doesn't? shoot her? |

With some practice, it can be pretty darn fast. One advantage of this system is the manual or arms is the same for any semi-auto, regardless of action type. SAO, SA/DA, DAO, striker-fired, all work the same with this method. | |

I know this is slightly off-topic, but does she even want to carry? Sounds like shes only doing it to appease you. All in all, sounds like she just needs to drill drawing/racking until it's second nature to her. |

Well, we had a discussion last night. She says she carries when she wants to, not really at my insistence as I had thought. She's a Gemini so maybe that tells you something. But she says she's more comfortable unchambered carry but at home she has it chambered, safety on.
