Gentlemen, can anyone suggest a specific brand/model of electronic hearing protectors? I am looking for a set that allows the wearer to hear normal conversation, while clipping gunshot noise. Will be worn mostly at handgun ranges, both indoors and outdoors. Based on reviews and price (~$100) the 3M Peltor Tactical Sports with MP3 capability are looking pretty sweet. Thanks in advance.

They look like they'd allow a better cheek weld than what I get with my non-electronic ones. I'll be ordering some to try!

Just wanted to say I jumped on the band wagon after reading this thread & the Howard Leights are awesome. The price from Amazon is damn good too! Never even thought about electronic muffs before, I always just used ear plugs. These things are sweet, you hear everything going on around you & when you go to shoot no need to put in the ear plugs! |

on the subject of ear muffs/plugs.. I've always been a fan of silencios.. my dad used them (muffs too).. I have several pair sitting around.. I keep a pair of in-ear passive plugs that allow me to hear what's going on next to my bed (flashlight plugs pistol) At the range I typically use "hear plugs" or baffled ear plugs under standard muffs. Out shooting I use just the hear plugs and it works great.. I've had the same pair for years they look like this but orange: ![]() I almost picked up a pair of the newer surfire option.. Have you guys tried any of these yet? 3M Peltor Combat Arms Earplugs 3M Peltor Combat Arms Earplugs (97079) - Amazon.com SureFire EarPro EP3 Sonic Defenders SureFire EarPro EP3 Sonic Defenders Earplugs Hearing Protection - Medium - Amazon.com |

I was looking at trying some of those 3M Peltor Combat Arms ones but also saw these and thought of giving them a try: Amazon.com: Etymotic Research ER20 ETY-Plugs Hearing Protection Earplugs, Standard Fit, Clear Stem with Blue Tip (Light Blue): Health & Personal Care |
