It is a sad state of affairs when you look on the gun classifieds and see a lot of overpriced guns . If you go to Fred M you can still buy a Glock 21 for $599 you look on the classifieds and see a used one for $750-800 come on guys. I bet there are a lot of folks new to guns and we yes we are going to welcome them to our hobby with that. If anything we need to educate them so they will stay with the hobby/sport/right to have firearms .I am truely ashamed and please do not respond with that is capatilism that is a bunch of you know what .If you think all this overcharging is ok I hope you car needs work and they just give it to you the way you screwed someone on on a gun sale and the mechanic says to you "Well thats capatilism man ". I see ammo is the same way the only place that is re upping is Fred M and Bi mar the Wal Mar looks like they are tapping out on the ammo business. If you feel the same speak up !!!! Am I the only one that feels like this ?

There were a couple Flocks on nwf that made me chuckle but if folks are that needy and they have the money then who am I to judge. With that being said who wants to buy my bone stock G17 for $899? I'll even throw in one Korean 17rd mag for $80 its a STEAL. of a deal.

Jk. I effin love my Glock.

When you add extra magazines, improved parts such at night sights, laser sights, holster, ammo, scopes and other parts and pieces to the deal that you paid good hard earned money for, it makes that deal more valuable.

If you buy a stock firearm new from the store then ask for 30 percent more than you paid that is despicable. If you buy the same firearm and $500 more in upgrades and parts, are the upgrades and parts worthless? I think they may be depreciated slightly but not worthless.

Couldn't agree more! I sure hope karma takes care of all these ******* gougers. Like I said in another thread, if I saw one of them on fire, I'd charge $100 to piss on them to put it out. "Well that's capitalism man". What goes around comes around.

Out of curiosity, I compared the msrp for a Browning SA-22 semi-auto .22 rifle with the price at Cheaper than Dirt. CTD wants $844 while Brownings msrp is $700. I don't get upset about it since that is the free-market and it is self-correcting. I'm choosing not to buy over-priced guns (for my budget) and to use my money to buy survival and prepper supplies.

Here's my opinion.

Gougers are assholes..
That said... being prepared means you don't have to deal with assholes?

We, the gun enthusiasts who have been in the game longer than the last 6 months, all saw something that scared us.. the potential legislation was a credible threat. However, most of us had a cache of weapons on hand. Many of us have a cache of ammo on hand..

If you don't.. that's your fault.

When you have a market that is INSTANTLY flooded with buyers, and a limited amount of supply on hand you will see a spike. IF THAT SPIKE BECAME PERMANENT... then the gougers.. wouldn't be gouging. That would be the new going rate for whatever.. guns, ammo, etc.

Many of us have seen spikes like this before.. I am far more interested in figuring out what the length of time is until things return to NORMAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I see this inflation lasting another 6 months (as long as none of the new laws pass) it will take the manufacturers that much time to catch up.

I'm not going to lie, I was tempted to sell a few guns.. it seemed like for a few weeks at the fever pitch I could have sold 4 guns for $15-20k. That's a lot of new guns if prices return to normal.. However. if they are all banned and you can no longer legally purchase (but have rights to grandfathered weapons) then selling out would have been just that.. selling out.

I think the gouging for the most part is over. much of the drama over the new laws looks like it will not come to fruition. I feel bad for cali and ny. Look for guns coming out of those states to enter the market.

I have made a habit of emailing those who have prices above msrp for new stuff and letting them know what MSRP is and that I have added them to my list of gougers. So far no one has replied but I am guessing they already knew.

Stocking up on ammo was always something that I meant do but I kept kicking the can down the road, hard lesson learned.

It was a hard lesson and a self repeating one at that. I wasn't in horrible shape when this whole thing started with thousand of rounds on hand, but I still didn't have enough that I felt comfortable using much of it during this.

I will be investing substantial sums when everything calms down.

I'm in that same boat.. I have a limited set of calibers I plan on using for a SHTF scenario (.22 .9 .45 .223 12G) I have some on hand.. but now I don't want to shoot it! lol

LAME!

I have other calibers which I won't ever really "stock" because I either don't see them as viable for defending, protecting.. or the ammo is already hard to find and not worth depending on post SHTF scenario.. OR I just dont have a gun worth using in that case ( .17hmr, 20g, .308, 7.62x39, 22.250, .243 etc etc )

I load just about everything and I saw this coming as I watched the elections last November. I started purchasing componenets early last fall. I spend a day shooting once a month so I do use a lot but I think I am good for a couple of years at my normal rate. There is simply nothing on the shelves in my area to be overpriced anyway. I spent last Saturday going from shop to shop with my lists of wants. I found two of nine items. Everyone told me the same thing, if they could get it they would still be able to sell it.

Having a minimum of a thousand rounds for each weapon is a good idea. Also having reloading equipment is not only fun, but one's family/life could depend on that ability some day...AJ

Go check out Wades.............................................. Their prices on .45ACP (cheap crap .45ACP) was well over quadruple the normal price. Sports Authority is still selling ammo and normal prices. Box of Winchester White Box .45ACP 100 round box was $47. In another few months all this craziness will go back to normal. Let all the noobs buy all the stuff for way too much money. Sooner or later their girlfriends and wives will see it and there will be a flood of guns back onto the market.

I might be totally insane!

cheers

One of my buddies was looking at buying a Ruger 10-22 before all the panic he waited to long and can't find ammo for it anywhere so now he is buying a Savage chambered in .17 hmr since ammo is readily available everywhere for it in Portland.

I'm not worried about prices not dropping, I'm sure they will. It's just annoying right now is all. And yea I see what you mean, I can still get 40 s&w for around $18-19 a box but my 10mm has gone up and my .44 mag is about a dollar a round now haha. Good thing I can reload it :)

I bought a savage .17 over the last month or so as well to add to my target 10/22. I had a .17 before so I know what I was getting into but they arnt really substitutes for each other. .17 ammo is pretty easy to find though, but much more $$ than .22. I think the fact that .22 has been so hard to come by is pretty funny/odd, what a weird thing to buy all of. I had to revert to retiring my 10/22 for the time being and shooting shorts out of a bolt .22 in the last month or two.

I bought guns and ammo as an investment knowing they'd go up in value. I love being able to buy mags and ammo cheap but that's not reality. I remember buying cases of 9mm for $79, do I piss and moan about Walmart charging $240 a case now? You don't want to pay $800 for a glock? Don't. The only thing that will bring prices back down is if we don't buy at inflated prices....

Reloading is great and all, but even the individual components are really hard to find. Instead of a stockpile of complete cartridges, you need a stockpile of primers, brass, bullets and powder. 6 of one...
