Choose my deep carry piece

What should I get?

Considering anything from an LCP to PF9 to an XDS, and anything in between.

.380 seems a bit small, and I don't have any other .380s, so I'd probably prefer 9mm. With the resurgence of 9mm ultra compacts, I think that's probably the way to go. The XDS intrigues me though in 45.

As long as it's ultra reliable and accurate to 10 yards or so, I'm not too worried about how it shoots. It won't be a range gun.

Revolvers are out. I have a 2" 38. It sucks.

Sig 938?
Kimber Solo?

I know you said revolvers were out.. but I definitely like my Smith 360PD now that I've got decent grips on it.. I fits nicely in the inside pocket of my coat. Due to the fact that it is 11.5 oz empty, I hardly notice it's there..

I have the XDs and I love it! The thing is a hand cannon... Its a true mans compact carry gun!

I carry with a 5 round mag in and a 7 round mag as well. The extended 7 round mag is really nice for more control.

I have carried a Colt .380 pocket lite for years. That little hummer is so small and light one doesn't hardly notice the weight/bulk. Carried in a pancake holster in the jeans, it has never been noticed. Even in summer with cutoff's, and a T-Shirt loose over the top of the jeans is totally concealed and comfortable. With the +P rounds I would bet my life on it in an emergency. ( Jacketed H.P.+P 88grs has a muzzle velocity of approximately 1000fps, and Muzzle energy of approximately 190 ft lb. In civilian life statically a life/death confrontation takes place within 10 feet. If the assaulter is farther; Especially in a state that does not support "Stand Your Ground" all they would see is the bottom of my shoes. (Feet don't fail me now) Or my bike wheeling down the road, as I leave the scene. I have no need or desire to be "Macho" and spend my last few years in the penitentiary. And even if the homicide is ruled justified, you will likely be sued by the family. I'm not out in the evenings, or living in E. LA and am always aware of my surroundings. Folks who have served in combat zones and Police know exactly what I'm referring to. Now when isolated, boating or camping I take more fire power...AJ

I'm having the same dilemma, I'm either going with the LCP or LC9. I'm leaning toward the LCP because it's pocket sized and for me that's going to get carried more. I love the .25's and .22's so the LCP offers better protection for what I'm inclined to carry. I do like the idea of having one less variety of ammo to buy so the LC9 get's points in it's favor that a way. I'm not a huge fan of the key lock and the thumb safety on the LC9, I would be interested to hear from the LC9er's how they carry it. Being that the DAO trigger pull is long, I would think you could chamber a round and keep the safety off, it seems like it would be highly unlikely that you would have an accidental discharge of either weapon. having never shot the LC9, I'm not ready to "pull the trigger" as it were.

Get the lcp. Why? Because you already said you have a glock 19 as do I. But you will actually carry the lcp EVERYWHERE. And if you've seen the ballistics on the Hornady critical duty. 380 you'll feel comfortable that it will get the job done. Also I've never ever had a single malfunction with my lcp of any kind. Getting something slightly smaller than a glock 19 isn't worth it.

XDs in .45 or wait a little while and get it in 9mm. I'm going to get one in 9mm.

Good points about the LCP. My dad has one, and while it's no range gun, it'll do.

I'm leaning towards the Shield though. It's not hugely smaller than the G19, but it's smaller in the right spots making it much easier to carry. Still not a pocket gun though. Maybe I need one of each.

I love my LCP, super small and light. Pair it with a laser sight (stock sights are pretty crude & minimal) and it's a winner. Fits in jackets, pants pockets, ankle holster, etc no problem.

Others worthy of consideration would be SIG P238 or P938 if you want a 9mm. M&P Shield would another one in 9mm. I've always lusted after the Springfield EMP, though it is heavier than those, but it's a 1911 pattern.

I'm also interested in an XDs, but it's not in the same realm as my LCP. I'd consider the XDs a good concealed carry gun, but not deep-concealed like the LCP.

The Shield would be awesome for daily carry. But you said "deep carry", which to me implies something a bit different (unless I'm missing something). I like the form factor of the Sig P938 and that it's lighter, but it's not much different in size.

Here's a video showing a comparison of the P938 & Shield to give you an idea of size: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sushMkKyDUY

I just found out my local range will let me shoot an LCP for $10 rental, which I think is totally worth doing. I'm going to take Dad and his LC9 and make a side by side evaluation.

I only say deep carry because my scrawny ass can't conceal much of anything. So someone else's "deep carry" may be a good choice for my EDC.

Believe it or not, it's easier to conceal on a skinny person than a large person.

Not in my experience. Everybody I know that is larger than me has a much easier time concealing.

Now if you're a skinny mofo who wears ill-fitting or baggy clothes, then you have a point. But I wear proper fitting jeans and slim fit shirts.

Then don't be a pretty boy and wear a slightly loose shirt....:nana:

I wear slightly loose shirts and properly fitted jeans with a belt. Tried out my buddies Crossbreed Supertuck with his 1911 on before the wife came home and she couldn't find it.

I can see how slim fit shirts would be a problem. Ankle holster maybe?
