"WORK" it won't work at all. It would take me 30 min to type out all the ways this can be defeated or avoided.

Its one of those feel good stupid ideas that will never do anything.

I don't think it's supposed to "work" at all. I think it's supposed to make guns more expensive, more difficult to obtain, and slow down the number of guns entering the state.

I think that this will force manufacturers to find a way to develop micrstamping technology cheaply. It's not like they're just going to stop selling guns in Ca, it's a huge market. The problems remain though. Criminals won't use guns with the microstamping, and if the gun is stolen, it won't matter. It's not like this dries up the supply of pre-microstamp technology guns, or stolen guns, or guns from out of state.

I agree with DevilDoc. It is not intended to work. It is intended to make guns more difficult to make, therefore more expensive, and less quantity available.

They know they can't ban them outright, so they will do whatever they can to inhibit/restrict ownership. Only rich and famous people should be able to be protected.

Bolded for emphasis of the hypocrisy of the gun grabbers. :censored:

I know it's not really supposed to "work". I'm just seeing it as significantly difficult for manufacturers to comply with. Bullet buttons are one thing -- a minor mechanical part. But this seems way different to me. This doesn't look like anything that could quickly and easily be done (unless I'm way off on where the state of technology is at.

And won't any "stamp" damage the brass? What's that going to do for re-loaders?

So I assume this works by having some sort of engraving or raised area inside the chamber so that when the round is fired the brass is forced into the engraving or the raised area is forced into the brass. In either case it would cause a weekend spot in the brass. And how would this even work with a steel case they don't flow so easy as brass.

Also how hard would it be to wrap some .800 grit sand paper around a dowel and hone the raised area right out.

Yeah, it's going to have to imprint it on the side if it wants a clean spot. To think of how the internals of guns would have be altered so the ejector doesn't send the case out, but some sort of stamping device instead.

Unless maybe they come up with unique magazines that do the imprint when the bullet is fed into the chamber. Or perhaps a wheel of some sort, built into the feed ramp, that imprints as the bullet goes into the chamber?
