True. True.

If they didn't, lord only knows what would happen there if it weren't "gun free"...

It looks like IL might get preemption thanks to the courts forcing CC onto the state. I think the house bill would essentially abolish Chicago's rediculous rules.

Illinois lawmakers approve plan to allow concealed carry for gun owners | Fox News

"
But its obliteration of all local gun laws, including Chicago's ban on assault-style weapons, drew immediate resistance from Gov. Pat Quinn, a Chicago Democrat like Madigan. Quinn said the proposal endangers the public by pre-empting local gun laws, which have nothing to do with concealed carry, the only subject covered by the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals' decree.

I was 'hoping' some of the 'change' would be things like repealing the offensively named "Patriot Act", closing Gitmo, and maybe get some of the money out of politics. So far he's 0-3, doubled down on the Patriot Act with the NDAA, keeps talking about Gitmo (but I ain't holding my breath) and that last one... well just a pipe dream I suppose.

I fell for the rhetoric back in the Clinton era, The North American Free trade act was supposed to solve a lot of problems for us and Mexico. People forget this one because the .com bubble distanced us from the economic realities we now face as a result of this passing, Mexico is not better off, and neither are we.

I and a lot of other people (way more than will admit it now) belived there were WMD's in Iraq. There weren't, it was about revenge and oil. Turn around and pow! Big deficit, dead Americans.

I've been sold some other Pipe dreams as well by politicians. But those are two that I remember feeling pretty duped by.

Not to sidetrack too far, but I saw a good video about Gitmo and it left me with a different view than I'd had before. The question is, what do you do with everyone there?

Easy... most aren't really a threat, so just release them. The few that really are dangerous/terrorists, move them to a high security facility in the states and get on with it ('it' being actually trying and convicting them).

Or is our govt trying to say our prisons aren't secure enough, and these guys would Houdini their way out? Pretty sad statement if so.

The discussion was really around taking prisoners into our country and the political/legal ramifications. On the surface it sounds easy, but in practice it has a bigger impact than I first thought...
