Alright, this ammo drought is getting to me, and I'm sick and tired of not being able to shoot jack. I'm picking up a Mosin from aimsurplus on the next paycheck, and my question is, they have 440 round cans of Russian surplus available for $89.95/can. I've also found on gunbot where another guy has two cans (880 rounds) of Bulgarian surplus for $199.95. I was planning on buying 2 cans anyway, so the quanitity isn't an issue. Anyone know whether it's worth the extra $20-30 with shipping to get the Bulgarian, or is there not any difference?

I think most of the surplus 7.62x54R now being sold is at least 1970's or newer. I would let the dates influence your purchase, newer being better although I have a bunch from late 40's that still goes bang. As far as Bulgarian vs Russian I believe they are comparable in quality. Also factor in shipping costs as some places charge more than others.

mosin + ammo + windex

life is good.

+1 I have 8 or 10 spam cans of 7.6x54 I stocked up when they were $60 per can. It’s a mix of the Russian/Bulgarian ammo and I've never had an issue with any of it, it's always gone boom. When I first picked up my 91/30 & M44 I had a couple of spam cans from the early-mid 50's and I had the same results out of 880 rounds every round fired. When you get it I would recommend completely stripping it down including the bolt & everything and letting it soak in solvent for a bit and take a tooth brush to it. Mine were jam packed full of cosmoline. Also like Shelby said Windex works great for neutralizing the corrosive salts after you've taken it out hot soapy water also works. Have fun they're a blast to shoot.

Why did I have to get to this party so late? :banghead: grew up in a family that didn't own any firearms, and I never shot a gun til I was 17, never owned one til I was 22. I'm 24 now and trying to make up for lost time. Oh well, guess I'll get it now instead of in a year when it goes up even more.

I grew up in the exact same environment, I started purchasing them when I was 18 and I haven't stopped.
