Hard to tell when to get involved

I watched this video with no audio. A guy comes running and catches a bus. Several people chase him down and block the bus so it can't leave and demand the guy that got off the bus, then continue to gang up on him, stab him and mob beat him.

Watching the video I was trying to figure out at what point I would have intervened as a bistander watching this guy get beat by a mob.

Turns out the guy had stabbed someone and was running away from the scene. Not saying that deserves a mob beat down, but what would have happened if a concerned citizen stepped in with a gun to stop the beating? How would the stabber respond to being protected?

This is why it is so hard to decide when to intervene and why most people just say they will be a good witness. I just have a hard time thinking I could stand by while a mob beat some guy on the street.

"Transient"? That guy doesn't look like a transient.. More here than meets the eye. And yeah, If I watched a beating that I thought would endanger someones life, I would probably intervene. I've been in a similar situation. I saw 2 guys jump and start beating on another guy in the U disrict. Luckily, the cops showed up before I had to..

I think in any situation like this you're running off of incomplete information. You do the best you can but it's hard to know ahead of time what the deal is.

What I would do, call 911...

Interviening all sounds good, right up until one of the attackers calls your bluff. Are you willing to risk your freedom, and you and your families financial well being, involving your self in something your really know nothing about? So you pull a gun and one of the attackers is drunk or drugged and advances to-wards you. Are you going to shoot him? Pull that trigger and you will never ever be the same, even if it's ruled justified homicide. Hesitate and they will use that weapon on yourself. You will soon see more of the inside of jail/court than you ever though was possible. You will be on a first name basis with your defense attorney and the prosecutor. Your bank account will be zero, with no end in sight. You likely won't even be employed any longer. It all sounds good right up until that trigger is pulled. I would take a beating before I would take another life. But then I don't put myself in that type of situation, and carry non lethal means of defense along with lethal...AJ
